Next (tricky?) Noob Question

Well my musicians are now sitting/standing where I want them and the script for playing the band's music is about done too.

Yipee! :D

I understand that animation is tricky as yet - can anyone think of a way I can get my npcs to hold various musical instruments, with or without animation?

Ideally I guess the Animation objects would be the way to go - but I take it this isn't possible as yet...

Any ideas welcome. Thanks in advance.

my idea is a no-brainer type that you will think is really stupid and already covered but i'll just post it to get your posts up and maybe get someone that can do somthin about it listening so you can get some resolution to your question. O.K. here i go " YOU can wait for the animations to be released" O.K. thats it and right now i feel relieved because that was easier than i thought that it would be.

best wishes in getting your band going

Fantastic! I am not above receiving any sort of simplistic answer!

By this do you mean like ... the animation format (kif)? Is this something Bethesda has on the cards?

Thanks for the response - glad you could get that off your chest :D

Posting just for the sake of it is not clever or cool kids. It clogs up the forum. If you have not already been warned before dylandvillian, I am warning you now. Stop spamming.

From what I've read, the animation .kf format has not been cracked yet (and Bethesda certainly won't help) so there is not a way to create new animations ATM. Hopefully others are working on this and will figure it out before too long.

You could make the instruments weapons, but unless they're all drummers it might look a little funny - guitars aren't usually held by the neck. A violin might work though if you put the violin in the shield arm (with the standard pose it could be held mildly naturally... maybe) and then the bow in the weapon hand. Constant random attacking could possibly bring the bow into contact with the top of the strings.

I think it's entirely possible though that it would just look incredibly stupid.

Good luck anyway with your efforts.

Thanks for the ideas and info guys.

I've been wondering if the musical-instrument-as-weapon might be a way to go.

What about those idle animations too? Is there a way of calling different combinations of those somehow (in a script...?) so that, say, the left hand does the book-reading idle, while the right hand does the painting idle?

If so, would this be possible with a instrument-weapon in the hand?

Thanks again for your advice - you rock my world :D

Not as far as I know. Idle animations use specific items that don't actually exist in the game world. For instance, alchemy idles don't actually take the apperatuses, all drinking animations use the same mug. Since there is no way to alter animations, setting new items to work with existing animations would apply any time someone did that interaction. IE, replacing the book model used in the idle with an instrument would make all people reading look like they're using the instrument. Even if equiped as a weapon, they would still put it away durring that idle (even if you did an unequip/reequip loop). Setting it as a ring or something might work a little better since these aren't taken off, but it would still not look right.

I'm fairly sure that something like this won't be possible any time in the near future. Even if you use alot of creative scripting it still wouldn't work right.

Uhm. Ye' know... It's called _creative_ scripting. It means finding/scripting your way out of problems that you can't (normally) solve otherwise.

He COULD make a script to do it...

We can adjust positions X,Y,Z, and turn in degrees... We can make our own "animations" by manipulating with these. You have to be clever, you have to be able to sense/keep quite a lot in mind, but it IS possible.

I couldn't do it, but maybe someone else could.
