Introducing "The Shire" A Skyrim Mod

TheBawb

Decided to see what you guys would like most out of this mod, just to see where I should put the majority of my time

  1. 1. What should the primary focus of this mod be?

    • Detailed Landscapes, I want to run and skip among the daisies of the shire.
    • Immersive NPCs, I want the Halflings of the shire to have plenty of dialogue and backstories, maybe even a few quest aware followers.
    • A cozy player home, I want to be able to relax in a comfortable Halfling hole after a long day of adventures.
    • Detailed Landmarks, I want the Locations in the shire to look beautiful.
    • Plenty of books, who doesn't like a good story? I want the lore of the shire to be it's biggest focus.
    • Multiple Quests, just walking around is boring, I want to go on adventures!
    • Enemies, I don't want to sightsee, I just gotta kill something.
    • New meshes/Textures, the Shire is a completely different world, it should look different as well

New update!

This is a container within the Shire player home which stores 4 great rings of power, found in various locations across the Shire landscape. The hand shows only rings that are currently added to it, and in the future is planned to give a reward to the player for finding all 4.

This is a display within the Shire player home which holds the various "Special weapons" which can be found in Skyrim. It is planned to eventually change this to display only Lotr weapons.

I have been asked by many people whether or not the Shire mod was going to adapt to Tamira and Stroti's beautiful new Hobbit hole resource. After a bit of thought, I've decided to post my response here.

While the resource undoubtedly matches my goal to make living as a Hobbit in the Shire a possibility, there is one issue in particular that could be mod-breaking. The interior mesh is a single-piece mesh, which would not work with several already-designed interiors in the mod. Such as Bag End, and especially the player home (Which requires individual pieces for the BYOH and dig-outable rooms to work properly)

So in conclusion the only way we would be able to use this resource would be to have a modeler cut up and resize the meshes into a vanilla-sized building kit (Including walls, ceilings, floors, etc)

I have attempted to contact Stroti for permission, so far I have not gotten a response. if permission is granted then I will search out a willing modeler to carry out the task, But Until I do we will continue building interiors as before.

We will, of course be using the amazing exterior mesh. Hopefully I've answered your questions, I will post again if Stroti grants us permission.

Big thanks to both Tamira and Stroti, permission has been granted! And much quicker than I had originally thought I might add.

Do to the fact that most of the modelers working on this project are currently busy, I will begin searching the Nexus (And possibly Steam) for a modeler who would like to begin breaking apart and resizing Stroti's Hobbit hole mesh http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/61656/?. Unless of course someone reading this would like to save me some time  More details will be given to the modeler who wants to do this, but the basic Idea is to cut up and resize these pieces into a vanilla-sized building kit.

PM me if interested, I can't wait to see how this will look in-mod.

Dear Fellow modders, friends, and shire mod fans,

If you've visited our thread at all in the last few days you may have noticed a few changes, most notably would be the name changes, but among them our disclaimer has been updated, as well as many other areas in the thread. The main reason for these changes is copyright (As you've probably already guessed) We have been busy removing all copyrighted material from this mod, this includes character names, certain locations, and even the mod's name. You might ask "If this is a non-profit mod, why do you need to remove LoTR names. Isn't this fair use?" I myself thought that at first, but names like Bilbo Baggins or Hobbiton we do not own. And therefore cannot use. The name "The Shire" is also not ours, so the mod's new name is "the shire" (As in plot of land) I'm not sure if I can change the name of this thread to fit our new name, but I'll look into it. Any updates containing copyrighted material (Whether in form of photos, videos, or text) are to be considered null and void, these locations no longer appear in the mod.

You needn't worry, we did not get a C&D letter, the changes were decided after a long time of thought, and discussion within the team. The mod is not dead, just well, different...A lot different

I apologize for this inconvenience, but it's the only way I can assure the work we've put into this mod is not wasted. Believe me, I don't like the changes any more than you do.

Yours in modding,

TheBawb

New update!

Here is the list of all rooms and areas in the shire player home, separated by location. It is a bit much (I may have gone a little overboard) but they're all craftable, so in the end, you decide how big your Halfling hole is.

Here's a little smooth use of puns I remembered while adding Matth's doors to the mod

But on a more serious note, I extremely appreciate the work and effort Matth85 put into this mesh. He did a fantastic job. (Even though we couldn't get the animation working, they still make excellent load doors)
I probably will end up brightening the textures a bit, and adding some color variations.

New update!

I wanted to remember how this looks before I add the finer details (Trees, rocks, cliffs etc) Though I doubt I'll be adding much, I like the look of it now :)
On a side note it happens to be the last photo I took before renaming the worldspace messed with the LOD.

A Spider nest up far north of Furtherhill. Few Halflings ever wander up there, so much that there is little talk of it's existence.

One of two waterfalls in the shire, the Grassfields falls are a treasured sight by any tourist, or nearby Halfling for that matter. (These things took forever to match up in CK, glad I finally got them working)

New update!

A Goblin camp packed full of scaffolds and other defences. They're dug in well, practically impenetrable

http://static-5.nexusmods.com/15/images/110/7186659-1425950822.jpg

Nothing quite like life on the water, especially when you're staring face to face with such a remarkable view!

Ahh, some parties (Especially birthdays) seem to go on forever. The drinking, the eating, the dancing, what a celebration! And the ability to share this experience with your fellow Halfling friends and family.... Absolutely priceless
