Assassin's Mod.

I don't know about you but I love playing an assassin in Oblivion. Especially using the Deadly Reflex mod. The only problem is, once you've done the Vanilla DB quests and played through JQ's Assassin mod that's it as far as quests go (at least it's all I've managed to find and believe me, I've looked).

Sure, you can just go around and randomly kill people but unless you're being paid to do it by someone, you're not an assassin, you're just a common murderer.

So I've decided to make one, which should be within my humble means as a modder.

The mod will begin with the player accidentally thwarting a Morag Tong plot to assassinate the remainder of Cyrodil's nobility. Seeing the current destabilisation they have decided to use the Oblivion crisis as an opportunity to throw off Imperial Rule.

The player would then decide if they wished to continue the plot or or disregard the quest line.

If the player wants to go on they would complete the contract found on the body of the Assassin they unwittingly just killed and then be prompted to go to another dead-drop location (I'm likely going to make that a hidden Shrine to Mephala) to recieve their next mission. And so on until pretty much every NPC that is in the Nobility Faction (within reason) has been killed.

The final mission would involve adding some new NPCs to make up a full meeting of the Elder Council, the player dropping through the ceiling, barring the door and slaughtering the poor souls. Then trying to get out of the Imperial City alive.

One of my core goals is to not add and extra meshes, textures or anything else that wouldn't be found in Vanilla Oblivion so that people can just download the ESP and go without having to worry about compatability with other mods.

Sounds simple enough right?

Most of this I can do myself, I know my way around the CS. Making new areas, NPCs, altering stats to make things more challenging etc.. are things I can do. The problem is (and it's a big problem) that I can't write scripts to save my life. I'm utterly hopeless! But I'm willing to learn. From what I've read about scripting none of the scripts this mod would use are complex at all.

So what I'm looking for is a friendly pointer to a good tutorial on how to write these kinds of scripts (spawning items, prompting a new quest stage etc) OR someone that likes the idea and is willing to help out on the scripting side of things.

**Before anyone says it, yes I know that making a bunch of important NPCs non-essential would mess up a fair few quests. Really though, the last thing a cold blooded assassin is going to care about is whether or not to help an old lady find a missing painting or helping an idiotic Orc in her quest to become a Knight.

I read that too..

"The Morag Tong is an assassins guild sanctioned by the Empire..."

"Although the Tong is largely restricted to activity within Morrowind Province, due to the fact that no other Imperial governments recognize them as a legal faction, this does not mean that fleeing Morrowind will protect you."

Those two parts seem to contradict each other a little...

Besides, as I recall. The last time I played Morrowind *I* was the Grandmaster of the Morag Tong and I say: Kill the Imperial Pigs!

Fair enough. It can always be easily rewritten, there are a lot of options to play with. If you're powerful enough there's always going to be someone that wants you dead. It could the Morag Tong on behalf of one of Morrowind's houses. Perhaps a small sect within the Morag Tong breaking off and making a play for power similar to the DB. It could just be a group of fanatically nationalistic Dark Elves that hate Imperial Rule. A rival Imperial Family looking for its chance to take power. It could even be completely anonymous to the player and they're just happy to take any contract that pays.

Anyway, I've already made a start organizing the quest path and I've a pretty solid idea of how it will progress. Once I get the scripting issues out of the way it shouldn't take too long to finish:)
