Problems Installing Mods

Hi all, sorry if my questions seem noobish but Im new to Oblivion (great game though!).

 

I can't get any of the MODS to launch with Oblivion.

 

I have read the official post on how to install a mod (ie extract to oblivion/data ..), I have extracted a couple of mods to the correct folders and they have installed okay on my PC. (They are showing when I look at them under 'my computer' etc), but when I launch Oblivion and click on 'data file' none of them are showing?

 

I have searched the net to see if anything obvious I am doing wrong and don't know what I am doing wrong, has anyone got any suggestions / had the same noob problem when they started??

Hmm, are you sure the esp file is in the Data directory? Sometimes if you extract automatically, and the folder structure for a mod in the rar/zip is poor, it'll extract to its own folder inside Data. For example, if you downloaded "James' Weapons" and everything was in the zip/rar inside a folder called "James' Weapons", then when extracted automatically to Oblivion\Data it would be inside Data\James' Weapons, thus not installing the mod correctly. In which case you'd need to drag and drop from the zip/rar to the correct folders.

 

Basically, if the esp file is in Oblivion\Data then it should show up in the launcher... so I can only think it isn't. ^^; If it definitely is, then there must be something wrong with your launcher. Maybe reinstall? (Make sure to back up your mods/saves if you do that).

Hi Switch, thanks for trying to help me :)

 

I hope this works I have tried to add a Screen dump, to the post to show what I am doing? I have made sure that all folders are empty except 'data' (/oblivion/data/weapons etc) are empty and all data from mods is in the main oblivion/data folder.

 

 

The example that I am using is a simply mods thta adds a sword called 'slayer' (it seemed like a small mods so I was using that one to try it out and make sure my save path is correct).

 

I have used mods before in other games and alwasy okay, I am fustrated at myself that I can't download these as everyone else seems to be having no probs at all.

 

Can you help further? as they are still not showing in the 'data' folder, dispite a clean install.

Edit: I am also now attaching a screen shot of what I see when I open up; 'Data Files in Oblivion'.

 

 

 

 

I have also once again tried a fresh install (saving all saved games first ;) ), and only downloaded a pack of 'unofficial / official plugin - ie Horse armour pack, so this should be the easiest file to get to show in my data file.

Everytime i install a clothing mod the item shows up in the game but the graphic is missing as if im not wearing it . I put it in the data folder and activated it but the ingame graphics are still missing

That's odd. If everything's in Data, then it should work...

 

Your screenshot attachment isn't showing, so I can't really help you any further until I see it. ^^; Even then, I'm not sure if I can help. As you say see if you can get other mods working or if they're the same.

 

As for your problem esoplayer, have you made sure you extracted the meshes and textures to the correct folders? It sounds a bit like you haven't, and that's why it's not showing. Do you get error messages upon loading the game or trying to put the armour on?
