LiVam
SO I recently installed Oblivion on my computer with new, better specs. I used to have a Geforce 8600gt with a dual core processor and I couldn't run the game on max. Now I have the following: - 4gb ddr3 ram - Intel i5 2.66ghz Quad - Geforce GTS 250 And the game is ridiculously unplayable. No matter the settings.Streamline didn't help. I tried changing the .ini file a bit based on a multicore tweak guide, but it didn't make a difference. Drivers are all updated. I am clueless and frustrated. Not even with the lowest settings I can play. Everything is under 25fps in a small area and under 8fps in an open area.I can run other games without problems. Just Oblivion seems messed up. Any help would be VERY appreciated.Thanks.

DavideDomingos
What mods are you runing? there are more and better mods and streamline to improve your fps withouth giving up on graphic quality. Have can also tweak your ini. to improve fps. And there also mods that change the grass to give you more fps with almost no diference. And im not sure but i think that having 4 gb of ram doesnt improve Oblivion and you need an mod to make oblivion use 3 gb of ram, or it only use 2gb of ram.Later, i will give a list of mods that can help you. forli
1) Before you bought the new hardware, have you make a backup of your old ini, and now you are using it? Or you let Oblivion create a new one? The old ini refers to the older hardware.2) Post your load order. Mod can slow down your game. Graphic mod are heavy work for your graphic card and ram, script mod heavy load your CPU. Oblivion is considered an old game but it cause problem even on modern PC.3) Try monitor your hardware temperature. At high temperature, all the hardware components slow down, to avoid burning. Tomlong54210
1) Please, post your Dxdiag (in spoiler tags) - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=know_how_to#PostYourDxdiag 2) Regenerate the Oblivion.ini - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=know_how_to#RegenerateTheOblivion.ini 3) After doing those things, try a clean boot - http://www.ehow.com/how_5331553_clean-boot-windows.html
LiVam
EDIT: SOLVED!Changed this in the oblivion.ini;bDSoundHWAcceleration=0bMusicEnabled=0iMaxImpactSoundCount=16 Apparently my onboard soundcard was the male without a father here. My framerate now pops up to about 300-400fps sometimes. Might need to turn on the v.sync :P Thanks a ton for the help guys, granting kudos :) 1) Before you bought the new hardware, have you make a backup of your old ini, and now you are using it? I didn't do this. When I upgraded the hardware I reinstalled everything, OS included.2. Not using ANY mods now and the problem still remains.3. I can run games like Crysis (albeit not on maxed settings ;p) without a problem. Cpu temperature usually idles around 50 (crappy fan) and goes up to about 65 at max load.Oblivion gives me less than 25fps when I load the game up. Hardware temperature just doesn't seem to be a factor here. 1) Please, post your Dxdiag (in spoiler tags) - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=know_how_to#PostYourDxdiag 2) Regenerate the Oblivion.ini - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=know_how_to#RegenerateTheOblivion.ini 3) After doing those things, try a clean boot - http://www.ehow.com/how_5331553_clean-boot-windows.html 1.------------------System Information------------------Time of this report: 7/22/2010, 16:10:05 Machine name: LIAM Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate N 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100226-1909) Language: Swedish (Regional Setting: Swedish)System Manufacturer: System manufacturer System Model: System Product Name BIOS: BIOS Date: 09/03/09 17:16:24 Ver: 08.00.15 Processor: Intel® Core i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7GHz Memory: 4096MB RAMAvailable OS Memory: 3064MB RAM Page File: 1594MB used, 6060MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11DX Setup Parameters: Not found User DPI Setting: Using System DPI System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent) DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled DxDiag Version: 6.01.7600.16385 32bit Unicode ------------DxDiag Notes------------ Display Tab 1: No problems found. Done. No difference. 3. Doing this now. Will edit my post once I have. I also forgot to mention that I'm using 2 monitors with the same gfx card. I have -never- experienced slowdowns in any games I have tried since I hooked up the second monitor though. And I'd just like to make clear that I usually play pretty demanding games at good quality with good fps. Under 25fps on lowest settings/highest settings doesn't make sense. And the ingame settings in oblivion don't seem to make it go any higher or lower for that matter. And yes, V.sync has been turned on/off. Edit: Unplugged the second screen, no difference.Another thing I forgot to mention was that the game originally errored saying I was missing "MFPlat.dll" - I think that's what it was called at least. I installed it and the error hasn't popped up since. Could this have anything to do with it?The error would pop up a bit and my game would freeze too. After installing it the game hasn't frozen. But I think the fps problem was there before too.
Nexus Set
It may be your soundcard/driver. All other specs seem fine. Similar situation here. The recommendation they suggested is using the Quiet Feet mod.
Tomlong54210
It may be your soundcard/driver. All other specs seem fine. Similar situation here. The recommendation they suggested is using the Quiet Feet mod.on-board means no sound card. That is the problem. The game is bogging down your CPU with sound processing. Buying a $25 sound card is the cheapest, most profitable investment you could make in your system. Until then, install Quiet Feet MAX - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=stabilization_and_optimization_mods (not Quiet Feet) There is OMOD Conversion Data for it as well. Xtudo
Also try unpacking the SOUND.BSA file (and remove it from Oblviion.ini), this will help you with stuttering reduction. Tested. A Creative X-Fi Gamer edition will end your problem, not only with Oblivion, with a lot of new games. Bye. Xtudo
