LegoManIAm94
I do like MGE but I want the Distant Land but it will crash onm my Computer when I run Morrowind with MGE. I want it to be on Ultra High. What would be the best NVIDIA Graphic Card for that?
JimboUK
I hate to state the obvious but the best would be the most powerful you can afford, once you start piling the shaders on things can start to slow down at an alarming rate. What sort of price range are you thinking of?
LegoManIAm94
I don't care about the price. I just want to know what card can work. I won't get it right away until a few years pass when the price goes down.
Povuholo
http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=2340&start=50#p50100 I'm using an ATI HD4850 512MB and get around 20 FPS outdoors with these kind of visuals. But that means there are creatures and such walking around too, so part of my slowdown can be blamed on the CPU. Anyway it plays fine and I get around 50-60 FPS indoors with all my shaders on. The 'Ultra High' setting is just for the quality of the distant land mesh though, and you really don't need it that high. High or Very High is good enough if you want it to look really good. You're better off spending the the rest of your graphics card power on fancy shaders like a good bloom/hdr shader, and a SSAO and sunrays shader. :) Nvidia's card naming system confuses me though so I have no idea what the Nvidia equivalent of my card is. Starsickle
Setting Distant land mesh quality to high doesn't really pay off. THis is why many engines have a feature to render things in increasing quality when you are looking at it, or coming towards it. Setting DL to The maximum won't pay off. Anyways, I reccomend doing a few things for pushing MGE Morrowind's performance: Shadows: It may be a bit strange, but morrowind's lighting isn't that great, and I've forgotten at this point if MGE does what needs to be done with hadows, in other words - Shadows always, ALWAYS are a Framerate hog, and you need to just do away with them, since I don't think they've been improved in MGE. Turn shadows off in every game before you make any other decision. Shaders: I acknowledge everything said above. The shaders in MGE are where it's at, and more mods need to be integrated that make use of them. Activators/etc: Enable this. Hard Drive: All bethsoft games, when modded, accept the textures and meshes that are in the directory over the default ones - I reccomend you keep your hard drive regularly Defragged, and maybe upgrade it to a higher speed if it's not a fast one, and you can afford it. This will help very much. Memory: I have NOT tried this yet, but if you' follow the Fallout 3 community, a tool that enables applications to use a larger memory space is popular - I don't know how well this will work in Morrowind, so I suggest you make a build just to test this. Otherwise, might be a good idea. Texture size - For most builds, meduim to high is fine, but keep in mind hte larger you go, the more memory that is going to occupy per object. That's a lot, so take heed of this when cranking it up. Video Card: Obviously the best you can. This game, even with MGE, isn't worth a new videocard, but with projects like OPENMW (look it up! Get involved!), and opening up the opportunity to play new games, you may find the investment worth it outside of MGE Morrowind, which is fun, but ultimately rather unstable. Well, I've said more than enough. I hope this helps.

I won't get it right away until a few years pass when the price goes down. I think it may be the GeForce GTX 480, then again I might be wrong, haven't bought an Nvidia card for years. Whatever you pick don't expect a stellar framerate, underneath that horrible engine is still dragging even modern PCs into the ground. Reflections are a bit of a killer.... http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/6236/mge1.jpg Shaders on... http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/2199/mge2.jpg Same scene with them off.... http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/2986/mge3.jpg That's on a [email protected]/HD5870 @ 1920x1200 2xAA 16xAF OPENMW can't come soon enough.
LegoManIAm94
How about the NVIDIA GeForce 9800 series? Whould that just be as good for MGE?
JimboUK
I think you might be better off asking on Bethesdas forums, there is a lot more traffic there and your more likely to come across someone who has used MGE with a 9800.
Povuholo
Check this out... When the bugs are fixed and the code is merged into the latest MGE revision it's going to be awesome.
