Does windows 7 have issues playing fallout 3? It says on the back for vista and XP. Could this be the source of my game freezing like five into it?

Mine does the same thing and I am currently looking for info on how to take care of the problem my own self.

I had the same problem where it would just hang or crash randomly a few minutes into gameplay. It might have something to do with how Windows 7 handles multiple cores and processor affinity versus Vista/XP versions, but I found my solution at http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1092380-fallout-3-crashes-constantly/

Just in case that link doesn't work or you don't like links here's the fix:

Open your Fallout3.ini file in the game directory,

Change "bUseThreadedAI=0" to "bUseThreadedAI=1"

then, right after that, add a new line with "iNumHWThreads=2"

Win7 does not have problems running Fallout3. I use Win7 x64 with a multicore cpu and have not experienced any of the problems some people insist on blaming Win7 for. Yes, FO3 was designed for WinXP and there will be differences. The biggest is the UAC that was introduced in Vista. As long as you do not use any mods FO3 will work just fine when installed inside the UAC protected folders. However, UAC sees mods as changes to the program and will not allow them without some special handling.

If you use mods it is best to install outside of the protected folders to avoid this. I recommend creating a new folder, C:\Games\Fallout 3 and installing there.

The UAC is an attempt by MS to protect critical programs from changes by malware. Disabling it leaves a back door unlocked for viruses and other malware to make changes in important files. Unfortunately, EVERY programmer seems to think his pet program is absolutely critical. Games, and many other programs, are not critical software and do not need this kind of overzealous protection. Operating system files, antivirus programs, web browsers and financial programs are critical and do need this protection in order to prevent unauthorized changes. However, The MS UAC does not differentiate between the protection afforded to a critical system file and a totally useless program you downloaded just to try out.

this method prolonged the freezing but didnt stop it. I have a i5 core and a 5870 radeon card.

It only seems to freeze at certain points. But i can go through if im holding a weapon, but sometimes it freezes and I have to restart fallout 3 and try moving with a different weapon.
