Hi all, I'm new to this forum, but have been a long-time player of Morrowind, and now Oblivion.

I prefer the RPG game type to all others, though I can appreciate a good shooter, or a good mystery. Not wanting to start off on the wrong foot with anyone, I'll say that OB is a very beautiful game. For the action sequences it is terrific to watch. I can enjoy that. But not for a very long time. The leveled loot, the "I'm stuck on a train" feeling of Oblivion wears on me after awhile and I have to stop. Because of these things, I don't have a great deal of motivation to just wander in Oblivion, because I know I won't find anything special, nothing level inappropriate.

I was so excited when I installed it. Watching the first sequences were truly awe-inspiring. But when I had closed my 19th Oblivion gate, I realized that the pictures were great, but where were the secrets, the intrigue, the nuance, the reward for taking a chance at exploring the wilds? The fact is, it wasn't there. I was disappointed, still am.

I did not want another Morrowind, I actually expected more. What I got was a very beautiful cliff note version of Morrowind. As someone once said, though, beauty is just a thin creep.

When I put my rosey glasses on I think that, perhaps, the game was released as a strawman that would satisfy the slash and grabbers, the console gamers that want an action game posing as an RPG, and because Bethesda has built this platform to be modifiable and the forums are fair teeming with talented modders, that they, the community, would actually flesh out the game, the community would create the lore and intrigue and nuance that gave so much heft to Morrowind. Maybe it is just wishful thinking.

I've expressed these sentiments on other boards and have been hammered and vilified, like I were wearing a blubber suit at a save the whale breakfast. So, hammer away.

Hi there. I have to say I agree with the sentiments although there are some improvements in more imaginative miscellaneous quests over the 'escort' glut in MW.

I am still playing one game - a bit a day as I also find it gets boring quickly - but I am determined to do every quest and then complete the main quest at as high a level as I can legitimately reach (having done it once at level 2).

Then I shall go back to MW until some really superb mods come along for Oblivion.

Anyway, welcome to the forums.

Welcome to the forums, have fun and don't spam. ^^

Don't worry about being hammered - that won't happen here. And if it does, posts shall be deleted, and users banned. :P Unlike some forums we don't tolerate flaming someone for having an opinion. Besides, I think you'll find quite a few members actually share that opinion... that Oblivion is a very shiney nod to the "console crowd". Not completely without merit, but gets boring far too easily compared to Morrowind.

Hello. I am alos new, and I do agree, to some extent.

Although not entirely.

As mentioned above, the Oblivion quests and such are more.....complex, in a usually exciting, intersting, more in-depth kind of way. In MW, the majority of quests were simple - take this person here, get paid for it. Which is kind of fun, but not for every quest. In OB, quests may be more like "take this person there, get paid, however your escort is found dead with an ambush and you must escape or be killed. Or of this happens, or this, or possibly this, maybe even this......."

You get the point. OB=more complexity and in-depth.
