Azrative
Nazgren, the Windlance was a Seige Crossbow, not a bow. But Azrative, i really don't see why the need to make it so complicated. Dragons are already incredibly easy to kill once you get to like level 15-20. unless you are doing a mod that makes dragons super hard to kill and makes the gameplay harder, like SkyRe or Requiem, but then, the mere acquisition of Dragonbones is enough of a difficult challenge that crafting two longbows out of it would more than be a reward to the player. Like, imagine killing a Dragon gets you enough Dragon Bones to craft 1 Dragonbone Longbow. and a Single Dragonbone Longbow is already a much better tool than your existing Longbow, so killing you next dragon will still be difficult, but then you get 2 Dragonbone Longbows, which you can then craft together. Perhaps you could put a restriction on the Greatbow in that the bows need something very strong as well to hold the bows together, but there you go, an additional challenge needed in order to craft this awesome weapon. Perhaps for flavour you could have, because the grip would then be too thick to hold with your hand, a skull-like guard would be crafted into the middle, which would also serve as the binding for the two bows. For example, I'm using: skyre + duel combat realism hardcore + deadly dragons (i gave dragons + 1000% stats, 150% melee dmg, 300% magic dmg, 100 additional armor and set their combat behaviour to never land so they will land only if they are already heavily wounded) So fighting them is even harder that fighting bosses in Dark Souls series. They finally feel like a challenge, you know, like every dragon in every other game. My point here is, no one is playing on vanilla Skyrim, well... Maybe some casual's do ;) As to that whole hard to get thing. What I meant was to make them difficult to craft Like for example, basic Iron Greatbow would require something close to 10x firewood, 5x iron ingots, 1x corundum ingot, 1x bear pelt and 20x leather scraps. Just to make you really rewarded when you managed to craft one. And Arrows would cost hmm... 2x Iron Ingots for 10 Greatarrows? I think that it should be reasonable. deathbymanga
um, i'm pretty sure you're one of the few who actively plays it at such high difficulty. and sooner or later you are going to reach a point where you just can't make it physically possible to be tougher, and still be Skyrim. I mean, I'm pretty into Skyrim, but the only real hard-mode i've done is Realistic Needs + Frostfall, its more about the experience I feel. but no matter. How would making it that much harder to get, make you feel rewarded. I often feel like something is an unnecessary chore when i'm given a dozen items to collect to make something. What you're doing isn't making something more rewarding to play with. you're making something harder to get at all. That's like saying, to make playing Basketball more fun, I'm going to put this ball in a den full of hungry lions and you won't be able to play Basketball until you get past the lions. It isn't more fun. Now, there are cases where going through a long trial can make the end result more rewarding, but the result is typically the experience that is more rewarding. the "reward" is often never even used. I never used Dawnbreaker when i got it after completing that quest. Even though that mage guy in there was so powerful. I really enjoyed the fight, and didn't care if i kept the sword. I just gave it to a Follower to use

I just gave it to a Follower to use Felling rewarded and having fun are very subjective hmm... Experiences? Anyway. Referring to design. I would rather keep them as simple and lore-friendly as it is possible. Gigantic (like 6 foot tall) bow with single string (again, look at DkS series and their Greatbows) with single string and maybe some X-wing like bows with crossed strings for dwemer and deadric versions. PS: I beat this game 3 times already using those difficulty settings. And I have more mod that adds to overall difficulty, like deadly monsters (set to do 150% melee and 300% magic dmg) Locational Damage, Frostfall, realistic needs and diseases etc. So I guess I'm just THAT type of person. Well... What can I do... :P
