playing on a computer screen

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Been playing oblivion on my ps3 for a while now, but I don't like playing on my ugly tv. I wanna use it on my computer monitor (HP 1530)-this

Problem is, I don't really have the cables to connect the ps3 and the monitor properly. After looking through the internet I'm still confused, with all these different cables and types(VGA, RCA, DVI, etc).

Can anyone shed some light on this situation? thanks!

You would probably need a HDMI to dvi cable for that monitor, but not sure on what the quality would be like on a 1024 x 768 screen only.

That's your best solution, nothing beats a ps3 in HDMI mode

You can get the cable and adapter at best buy or newegg.

What monitor is it? Depending on the monitor it could be as simple as a HDMI lead or could be HDMI>DVI using something else for the audio.

Edit: Never mind, just noticed the link. I wouldn't bother with it, 720p won't work and 480p will stretch and look horrible.

Hmm that's a good question, I think it streams the audio through dvi just fine, i haven't fully tested that yet, but i know you can, there is a option on the ps3 to allow multiple sources at once.

The monitor has no speakers so the audio would have to be separate. Sonys refusal to support monitors is one of the reasons my PS3 only gets used a media centre while I do my console gaming on the 360, Microsofts VGA support is a godsend.

The 360 can output 1080p, like the PS3 what you actually get and the amount of upscaling needed depends on the game. I don't use the PS3 as much as 360 because the PS3 can't used on any of my monitors without stretching and the Wife has the main TV most of the time. I use a 1680 x 1050 without pixel mapping for the 360, it's not possible to put a 1080p signal in there and 720p is nowhere near the monitors native resolution and will look horrible. If I disliked the PS3 I wouldn't have bought one would I? This isn't the first time you've bought up "Fanboy" when I've made a comment, maybe in future you should except that people have a different opinions to you and don't insult them.

Anyway back on topic...

You'll have to use a HDMI to DVI connector and seperate cables for the audio into your speakers. You'll also need to set the PS3 to 480p as 720p is too high for that monitor. It will scale up and look pretty bad, in fact you might not get any picture at all because of the HDCP. If your TV is that bad you might be better off getting a cheapo HDTV, they're rubbish for watching TV on but it would do a better job with the PS3 than that monitor will.

Well coming from the debates section you would understand, I have a real hatred against the 360 now, ever since mine rrod'ed+M for melted motherboard :verymad: , and now the slims that shut down after it detects over heating, well the most logical thing would have been to fix the problem instead of having it shut down like that.

If you knew where I'm coming from, but i try my best to keep it none biased.

It was obvious just from photos of the 360 insides that it would have heat issues, whoever designed it needs shooting. Sometimes you wonder what sort of Muppets these companies employ, just look at the idiotic antenna on the iPhone4, another example of not thinking things through.
