Installing Custom Race Mods?

Hello everyone. I am completely new to this whole mod thing, and I was just wondering: How does one install custom races, for example, the Lattamer v2 mod (http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16396)? From my understanding you are supposed to download, extract, and place the data in the Data folder, start Oblivion, choose Data Files, check what needs to be checked (Lattamer.esp in this case), and then start the game

However, once I reach character creation, I see nothing except the normal choices of Bretons, Khajiit, etc.

Anyone have anything to help? What am I doing wrong? Am I just being a complete idiot and missing something obvious?

Are you using Widows Vista or 7 as your operating system? If you are then you should install Oblivion into a custom folder like C:Games to avoid UAC preventing mods from showing up in game. If you have more than one custom race, conflicting race mods will not allow a race to show up at all or not have a selection of the modded hair and eyes available during character creation.

How exactly did you extract the files, this may sound silly but did you copy Data into Data or did you copy meshes, textures etc into data?

Should have the following structure;

Data--> Textures

Meshes

Music

Video

etc

I've had a look at the file and I don't think it needs the Script extender although it may need archive validation invalidated (there is a program for that, but I would reccommend getting OBMM-oblivion mod manager as this has the invalidation feature and will help when you install any more mods.

Here---> http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097

If you don't want the mod manager then the invalidation program can be found here---> http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10724

Also even if it is installed correctly you will need the custom race fix otherwise you won't be able to leave the dungeon, this allows the other prisoner in the dungeon to talk with you and start the main quest. you can find it here;

Hope this helps

I am running Windows 7, I reinstalled it to a custom folder, but this did not work, and I don't have any other race mods active

The Data folder is in order, I just double and triple checked. I looked through OBMM and am a little confused on what I should do, however after looking at Utilities > Old Conflict Detector, This is what it says:

[KT_CustomRaceFix.esp] (unparented) - Active

No conflicts

[Lattamer.esp] (unparented) - Active

No conflicts
