skullsy
I'm getting a new laptop with a 2.66ghz (3.33 turbo) dual core CPU, 4gb of RAM, and an ATI HD5850 graphics card. If I can't, any upgrade suggestions?
Illiad86
Ya should, those are good cards...not sure how well the Mobile version of it is though. Doing that myself...on a 5770 heh...this is gonna be crazy.
Tomlong54210
I'm getting a new laptop with a 2.66ghz (3.33 turbo) dual core CPU, 4gb of RAM, and an ATI HD5850 graphics card. If I can't, any upgrade suggestions?Oblivion is graphics-intensive. QTP3, for the most part, just requires extra VRAM, so if your card has 1GB of VRAM, adding QTP3 will not hurt performance much. Your card does... The CPU upgrade is more important, and QTP3 has little to do with that. PyFFI-Optimized Modules - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=stabilization_and_optimization_mods#PyFFIOptimized <-- install the optimized meshes pack for QTP3 on top of QTP3 and your CPU will be less taxed by the slightly more complex meshes that QTP3 installed. All in all, that laptop will be more than adequate for running QTP3. It is the mods that put extra pressure on the CPU that everyone has to worry about. You can throw on as many texture replacers as your GPU's VRAM will allow. The only reason why QTP3 requires a little more from the CPU (instead of just the GPU) is because it replaces many meshes as well, and your CPU has to do lots of calculations for the meshes' polygons and whatnot. However, an i3? i5? dual core should be fine. That laptop must run hot though with a 5850 in it... Edit: The HD5770 is significantly weaker than the 5850, although it is still a good card, but it is still way more than enough for Oblivion. All that matter is that it has that extra 1GB of VRAM. I'll emphasize, that yes, that card can run QTP3 and a host of other things very well, but RAEVWD adds more work for the CPU to do, so you would still expect a nice performance hit from that mod (in case you were wondering...) skullsy
K thx for the insight guys. Btw it's an alienware, and there laptops are known for managing heat really good, so I'm thinking it won't get so hot. Anyway thx again!

Oh my...it runs it rather well...finally got it installed last night...holy poop on a stick is all I can say...:P Got the 1GB 5770. No performance drop whatsoever, it's amazing  Perty hehe 1920x1200, 4xAA, 4xAF, and I'm still getting the same FPS (45-60+ outdoors) I was getting when I had ATP texture packs installed :D Really shouldn't have too many issues with the meshes...I'm on a 3.2GHz dual core and there's no studder at all...it's just nuts lol. I'd like to see how well cooled those are :D Prolly got a tons of heatpipes running through it :D Have fun :) And enjoy, it's quite a beautiful site

QTP3 might contribute an extra load due to the meshes, however. Is that a Core2Duo you are running? I have the E8500, but I am also running over 300 mods...or was, anyway... Illiad86
Ahh, didn't know that...ATP's are quite gorgeous as well. Always wanted to give QTPIII a try though...wouldn't have run very well on my 7950GT. Naw...Athlon X2 5200+ overclocked :) Only running 108 mods...no major overhauls (just Fran's Leveled Items/Creatures), All Natural, clothing , poses, roleplaying and immersion stuff. Nothing crazy haha.
