Kingpadraig
hello! i am having major modding issues. now i wasn't going to upload it or anything just was going to use for my own entertainment. If anyone knows the mod "castle in the moutains" thats the one im trying to mod. I am trying to change every npc in there to a different race, i go into the construction set, change the ID to something unique, set the race to dwarf and add some armor to them. To the guards that i do it to they change their race but even though the armor they use to have is deleted and i added new ones in there, in the render window it still has them wearing the same old armor and weapons (oh when i do this when the thing pops up after you change the ID and asks if you want to create a new one i click no and i replace it, would that have anything to do with the crashes?). I wonder if the CS is just weird and it will change when i walk into the room but surprise surprise i get a error saying "Oblivion has encountered and error and will now exit" in the middle of the loading screen when i try and walk into the room. Also whats really weird is whenever the Construction set gets closed out of and i reopen it and go to the npcs i changed to dwarfs its changed back to the default vampire race. The name and ID is still the same along with inventory but the race is changed...happens every time and it does happen to every single one of them that ive changed. :I use the dwarf mod dwarf race by cube freaky. if you cant tell i love dwarves and the thought of this was very very exciting. ALSO! if one of you also has the time can you post a simple way to make an npc become a companion? like you tell them to follow and they fight for you\with you? THANK YOU!!!!!! Ranokoa
Okay, I can tell you a few things. For one, why would you want to change the ID to something unique... but replace the old one? That is just not a smart idea, ESPECIALLY when doing it in another person's mod. It's not a good idea. If those NPCs were used in any script or anything you can say good bye bye because they are now different. Doesn't matter how and all that, just don't replace the old ID, keep it the same. There is no reason to replace an ID from one mod if your intention is to literally replace entirely the ID of the creature before. When in the render window and you change the race, or inventory of something, normally the race might show up but if you double click the NPC that already exists in the render window and change its inventory it will not "show" that is has changed, but it has. A good way to "show" it is to copy the NPC, delete the one that's there, then paste the same thing and it will "refresh" the NPC. This is just a normality, there is nothing wrong with it not showing. When you change the ID of something and fiddle around it will always go to default Vampire Race. Just save your progress, go back, and change it back. The crashes are probably actually caused by the changing of the ID. But I don't know. Because I do not know how much is dependent on those IDs. The construction set can and will crash a LOT, both randomly and on specific things, such as making an object, npc, whatever, fall for more than 500 units of measurement. It just happens, especially when forcing multiple items at once to fall long distances or at all. Redownload both mods that you changed. Delete the changed versions. Make the changes the same except do not replace the ID. Remember though, just because that they don't appear to have changed clothing does not mean they actually haven't. The CS has a bunch of weird bugs like this. It is best to ignore them, but always when encountering them it is good to ask about them in the forums so you know which ones to ignore and which ones not to. Anyways, if there is anything that still doesn't work please tell me and do not leave out any details and I'll help you. If you feel that I have helped you solve your problem feel free to Kudos me, which can be done by clicking Give Kudos on the left of this post under my avatar with the statistics, or by clicking on the link on my Signature below this post. Kingpadraig
so its okay to replace the npc with new race/armor and whatnot and that wont cause anything screwy? So my problem is just replacing the ID (you think)? I honestly hope this will work and if it does i will be one happy panda. Thank you very much for replying and if this works ill give you kudos ^_^
DavidBudreck
To "add a partner" check out "CM Partners" http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7819. The process is very simple, and there is pretty good documentation, and about a ZILLION users that can help you if you run into trouble doing it. For some of your crashes, realize that the CS is somewhat buggy and unstable, and it just crashes, period. I can crash it pretty regularly by applying scripts to objects. Simple, should be no problem, but... I have learned to make the script first, then apply it at the same time I make a new object (AND TO SAVE FIRST, THEN SAVE AGAIN!!!). My guess on the "Oblivion has encountered an error" is that the race isn't finished or fully applied to your NPC's. Dialog is set by race, and so are hair and eyes. Make sure the voice for the new race is set to something that has dialog, preferably a vanilla race. Also, if the custom race uses cusom hair, eyes, etc., this could be a problem. You may need to simplify to track it down; take one step at a time, like does Oblivion crash if you just use the custom race without changing any of the NPC's in the mod, etc.
