Kamaya
So the other day I decided I wanted to get back into oblivion and stuff, and I'd done some modding before, just minor stuff making custom races for myself etc. Last time it went swimmingly well, and I had no problems. Since then, I have upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 64bit Pro, and changed from a non-steam oblivion, to a steam-run oblivion version. However my hardware is identical, o I can rule out my computer hardware specs not being high enough. So here's what happens: Every time I open up the TES CS and try to save, I get the generic "the program has stopped working" window immediately. It doesn't even wait a few seconds to -try- to save, the error comes up right away. Here is what it says: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: TESConstructionSet.exe Application Version: 1.2.0.404 Application Timestamp: 461430cf Fault Module Name: TESConstructionSet.exe Fault Module Version: 1.2.0.404 Fault Module Timestamp: 461430cf Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0049983a OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 0b2c Additional Information 2: 0b2c411fde802aed3d54fc14ec173e0c Additional Information 3: 7309 Additional Information 4: 73094f8ae6d0654a3d0357f3a82d3c17 Things I've tried: Disabling UAC. Saving before loading the render window. Saving before loading any data whatsoever. Saving with and without an active file. Changing the scale on a random cell in the world before saving. Doing nothing before saving. Reinstalling EVERYTHING including my entire OS, and installing steam(including oblivion) in the users\public\games folder to dodge UAC. I'm completely stumped, I can't find anything on google aside from what I've already tried. Help please? EDIT: I tried running in XP SP3 compatibility mode, that resulted in me being able to save prior to loading any data from .esm files, and created a .esp properly (which I was unable to do prior to this), However once I've loaded in my Oblivion .esm files etc. it remains unable to save. =/
Hickory
Windows Vista and 7 have problems with certain programs installed to the default 'Program Files' folder. The first thing you should try is to uninstall and reinstall to a different location, like C:\Games\Oblivion, or something like that.
Kamaya
Windows Vista and 7 have problems with certain programs installed to the default 'Program Files' folder. The first thing you should try is to uninstall and reinstall to a different location, like C:\Games\Oblivion, or something like that. I guess maybe I wasn't clear about that in my original post. My oblivion is not installed in program files. I wiped and reloaded my system entirely, and installed steam and therefore my steam-linked Oblivion, into the C:\Users\public\games folder instead. I figured the public folder was as far away from any sort of UAC issues as possible.
Ranokoa
Try Duel Boot, and run XP when using the CS and game if nothing else works.
Kamaya
Try Duel Boot, and run XP when using the CS and game if nothing else works. Yeah I was thinking of getting a second drive and doing it that way too, since nothing else seems to work. Thanks for the input.
