That means it cannot be changed Evidently Bethesda never imagined that more than 254 would be needed by anyone. So, if you feel you need more mods than this start brushing up on how to merge mods because the limit is not going away. There is also another lesser known limit, and that is the number of mods both active and inactive that are in the data folder. That limit is around 400 so not many people see it. It seems that Oblivion reads all mods in the data folder whether they are active or not, and if there are too many it crashes. Well, you know, I'm setting up my modded oblivion and it has more than 350 esps included. On those 350 mods, maybe 10 are armour mods. The rest is a full FCOM install, combat rebalances, magic rebalances, "realism" tweaks and so on... And don't start me on Unique Landscapes!! :D They are so well done that I want to run them all, but then you have to think about the compatibility esps between them, but also with some quests and some other mods... Believe me, if you simply want to rebalance your game in a thorough way, you'll reach the 255 limit pretty quickly !! By the way, if somebody could help me determine which mods I could now merge without harm, it would be of a great help. I've spent many hours installing everything according to a guide i found on the official forum, and i just don't want to make everything fall apart by merging the wrong mods together...
