ub3rman123
They're afraid that someone will make a mod that damages the console, intentionally or unintentionally, and then Microsoft will have to fork over the dough due to the warranty. Mods aren't exactly stable by nature, and while a crash on the PC can be undone, a console is a bit more permanant.
C6Aviation
Yeah, I wonder if the mods would cause extreme console failure. Just playing on it risks it RRoD'ing. 360s aren't notorious for being very reliable. You're just as likely to RRoD the thing playing a modern game as you are modding a not-so-modern one. Bben46's FAQ, Can I use the mods on my 360? Or PS3? Short answer, No. Long answer. The file structures between the 360/PS3 and PC are totally different. Even if you could get a mod made for the PC into the 360/PS3 it won't work. To get it to work, you will have to rewrite the operating system of the 360/PS3 first, then rewrite every mod to work on that new operating system. Then, the maker of the 360/PS3 doesn't want you to do that. If you modify anything in it, they will block you the next time you go on their site. (read their terms and conditions) They make their money selling you new games and not by allowing you to use free mods. Yes, there are sites that will tell you how to modify your 360 or PS3 so it can use mods. However, it is not a simple process and involves voiding your warranty, and the terms of service you agreed to when you first got the thing. - and risks turning your expensive console into a nice looking paperweight. There are currently very few working mods for Oblivion/FO3 available for the hacked consoles. And, the first time your 360 connects to the MS site - your particular box is banned forever. Even if you unhack it. (Check recent xbox news on Microsoft banning nearly a million xboxes with "No recourse" for "hacking them".) Sony has a similar policy regarding PS3, just not quite as draconian. You agreed to this when you signed up! Read the fine print -Paraphrased: You have the right to use it only in the way they want you to use it and if you ever try to use it in any other way than the one they give you, they have the right to shut you down. If you need a paperweight, go down to the building supply and buy a brick - it's cheaper. My advice, start saving now for a good PC - don't get a cheap one.You don't even need that good a PC. Mine is a collection of random garbage picked bits and some cheapie used crap, and it plays Fallout 3 WONDERFULLY. Perhaps the only parts I haven't garbage picked or bought used are the RAM(I wanted four matched sticks) and the case(Couldn't find one that wasn't destroyed). I even got an awesome monitor that does 2048x1536 by garbage picking. Also, EULA SCHMULA. They're afraid that someone will make a mod that damages the console, intentionally or unintentionally, and then Microsoft will have to fork over the dough due to the warranty. Mods aren't exactly stable by nature, and while a crash on the PC can be undone, a console is a bit more permanant. They're afraid you won't want to buy a new game because modding the old ones is enough to keep you playing. They get a kickback from every game sold for consoles, hence console games costing ten more than PC ones, and if people aren't buying new games because they're just modding their old ones they stand to lose quite a bit of money. dabomb2287
yeah that would be alot easier...only if microsoft wasnt so narrow minded. but aright thanks for the advice!!
bben46
Greed!Because they want to make more money by selling you a new game. Playing the same one over and over with new mods - especially free ones doesn't make them any more. When they figure out how to charge you for every mod then they will allow them. falloutperson416
Ohh bbe46, it's just sad your very right. It's all about money, no enjoyment of the people. But, that's the way we humans in big bignuess seem to go. :wallbash:
Odile
I'm actually kind of glad that consoles aren't moddable to the extent that the PC versions are. I hypothesize that most Fallout players play their copy on a console, and that PC Fallout players--PC Fallout players who use mods, specifically--are the minority. I don't have a problem with this. Can you imagine the waves a mod like Animated Prostitution, or even just a body replacer, would cause if the entire mainstream had access to it.? No thanks!
