A parallel Cyrodiil

In the category of "mods that would be insanely difficult and time-consuming to build but unspeakably awesome"...

 

I would love to see a mod that allows you to visit either

(1) an "alternate" (think parallel, or for those who have played A Link to the Past, a Dark World version) of Cyrodiil

(2) a past or future version of Cyrodiil

 

For example, in (1), the player could be thrown into an alternate version of Cyrodiil where Mehrunes Dagon wins the Oblivion Crisis - or where the Hero of Oblivion never existed. Or in (2), the player could visit the lost city of Sutch and participate in the events that explain why it doesn't exist today.

 

I know this would be an absolutely titanic undertaking. But some tricks could be used to limit the work, for example by altering some of the landscape of Cyrodiil so that only certain small sections can be visited, or by installing a plot device that limits movement (for example large lakes of lava or clouds of poisonous dust in (1), or in (2) make up something about only being able to move so many feet away from whatever thrust the player into the past/future.)

 

Huge ideas for potential but it would have to be taken on by a decently sized team that would have a LONG time to work on it.

Hmm, I really thought this was generate SOME interest, even if no one wants to put forward the Herculean effort that would be needed. There's something about seeing a broken, burnt-out husk of White Gold Tower against a blood-red sky that I find strangely appealing...remnants of the Mages or Fighters' Guild combining forces with the Dark Brotherhood to survive...

Sounds like an awesome idea, but as you said it would take a big team a very long time to create. I love your vision of broken White Gold Tower against a blood-red sky. I would love to see this done!

 

Too bad I'm not very good at building quests/new content. I can only do scripting. Otherwise I'd start on this idea myself!

The potential of having two Cyrodiils interact, somewhat like the Light and Dark Worlds in "Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" are immense. And like I said earlier, the creators of such a parallel world could use several different methods to limit the amount of the second Cyrodiil that is accessible.

I would just duplicate Tamriels worldspace, rename it from "TamrielDUPLICATE0000" To TamrielDark. Then put the weather to oblivion weather :P I can't model or tex good though, but making the worldspace is possible. And super easy.... lol.

 

Well, that's a start! :) I'm sure we could come up with plenty of ideas for new questlines, etc. too. As I mentioned before I could see things such as the broken remnants of the Mages' and Fighters' Guilds, and the Dark Brotherhood, joining forces. Or Mehrunes Dagon forcing especially savage fights to happen in the Arena. Or the other Daedra Princes such as Azura organizing resistance. The list goes on and on.

Basically, the question to ask would be: What would Cyrodiil look like if the Champion and Martin Septim failed?

Well, we have a storyline then lol. however it may take about 10 or more minutes to duplicate tamriels worldspace because its huge :( And the ruined buildings for headquarters could be vanilla kvatch models unless anyone decides to make custom models (IE a ruined well and cheyhindal house for the DB, ruined arcane university is a must though.... you get the point.)
