Can't enable mods

Hello everyone,

My "Bethesda" folder was located in C drive before I had to format my computer. Now it is in D drive because I didn't want to go through all the trouble with installing mods again and backed the "Bethesda" folder and my documents>mygames>oblivion folder to D drive. Now I tried to run it, it worked, I put mygames>oblivion folder back to C drive in "my documents" and I can see my saves so its pretty much ok.

The thing thats problem is, when I start oblivion that configuration screen where you can enable or disable mods or change the general video setting etc. doesnt come up. Instead the game just starts and so the mods are not enabled. Also if there is any registry entries from oblivion, I dont think I have them because they also got formatted. So can someone help me to make this game work from D drive with mods and registry entries etc. ?

Thanks

You'll have to uninstall the game, then re-install it(However, since you copied game files to somewhere else, things can be harder). Or I think you can edit registry(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion)........... But, do not move \My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\ alone. If you feel C:\ does not have enough space, you'll have to move whole My Documents, from My Documents->Properties.

Your mod should go to: (Your Oblivion installed)\Data

Your save files will go by default: \My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves

Your problem lies in the archaic MS Windows Registry. This is the place windows relies on to find where every part of a computer program is actually stored on your computer. And is used by some as a cheap anti copying feature, and to prevent having more than one copy of the game on your computer ( I have a way around this also)

Copying the files does not change any of the references in the registry, so Windows is still looking in the wrong place for things. Even moving the files using the move command dosn't change all of the registry entries and will cause problems.

You will probably need to completely remove the game to remove all of the registry entries. And the game uninstall doesn't do this very well, It leaves behind several registry entries 'just in case you want to install it again' unfortunately they assume you will always want to install it back to the exact default location it was in originally.

I have written a uninstall/reinstall procedure that will allow a complete removal after backing up things like mods and saves. - your copy will work fine for this so you already have the hard part done. Just rename the folders to something like Oblivion-backup to keep from deleting anything during the uninstall, and overwriting anything during the reinstall.

Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexus

http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240

It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice.

I did a copy paste of C:Program Files:Bethesda: Oblivion folder and C: Documents and settings: username: documents: mygames: oblivion folder to D drive.

I am telling that I formatted/erased everything on my C drive including any games or documents and registries, even windows itself got reinstalled. I dont have setup file of oblivion so I have to do it with 10 gb of oblivion folder alone, which means I have to edit/install registry entries all manually without a setup exe.

Without a legal copy that has the setup, those registry entries will not be created. And as asking for them is considered piracy, (circumventing the legal method of installing) we cannot allow them to be posted here. That will get you banned. Please note that I am a moderator and that is my job.

Besides, They will be different on your system than on one that has the game installed in another location - These are the entries that tell windows where things are in the data structure.

Used copies of the base game are available for US $4.25 on Amazon.

Game of the Year - with Shivering Isles and all DLCs except Battlehorn Castle are US $12.49

Check other used game sources and you could pay even less. Find someone who doesn't play it any more and swap for his copy.

Steam charges more, US $20 for The base GOTY (without most of the DLCs) and $25 with all of the DLCs. but you can download it and have it immediately

Hey first of all noone has any kind of right to say it is piracy because the goddamn oblivion dvd which I paid 10 bucks extra for shivering isles and kinghts of nine etc is right below my hand. the problem is I dont want to install the freaking game again cause then I will have to cop paste and move all the mod files which is around 5 gb from d drive to c or from their current folder to other folders. Now how come you do not help me if it is your job to help me, and if it is legit and more legit since I have bought all the features this game offers. I said I formatted it. And if I had a pirated version I wouldn't bother this much for the health of my game, christs sake!

edit: that copy pasting I mentioned above was from the original game already, how come such a thing makes you think it is not legit may I ask? What part is so difficult to understand and process?
