Editing/Making NPCs, instant crash.

I made a different topic about it, because its a slightly different issue then my last post.

My first issue was I wasn't able to edit my Adoring Fan, because whenever I changes his appearance, Oblivion would crash when I went into the area with him in it.

I thought nothing of it, maybe its just a bug with Adoring Fan. So I downloaded the CM Partners mod, and followed its instructions to make a new npc and add it somewhere in the game.

I tried to make it a Siren race (from a mod) with a staff from another mod too. Those aside everything was normal. I gave it magic to use, set it up with a basic AI, etc etc.

But when I go into the area of my NPC, the game crashes.

It seems to crash whenever I make a new NPC or edit a old one. Does anyone have any ideas what I could be doing wrong?

So you made an NPC reliant on not only CM Partners (for master file/s), but also a race mod and a staff mod? Do you understand the implications of this?

Not really, I thought it would be fine, because it only loads off of mods that are already there?

Im not 100% sure I understand how the games inner workings...work.

But anyway, I also tried it without the staves and races. It seems ANY and all npcs I make just simply crash the game.

Please try this: open up the CS and select oblivion.esm and NOTHING ELSE. Now, double click on any NPC and change the ID to a unique one and press OK. Answer yes when asked if you want to create a new form. Now place that NPC into the game via the render window - press F to allow it to sink to floor level. Save your new esp and activate it. Does that NPC crash your game?

Apparently that works fine.

Is there any way whatsoever to use items from mods, or races on my NPCs? Or is that hopeless?

No, it's not hopeless, but you would need a full tutorial, which would be beyond the scope of this forum. The simplest way is to create a safe NPC and obtain the objects in-game, then give them to your NPC. If this is not what you are after, then you need to find a tutorial which will teach you how to create mods with master file dependencies. A master file is normally an .esm, but you can fool the CS via the 'Esmify Self' and 'Espify Self' functions of Wrye Bash -- you must Esmify and donor mod esp before opening the CS, and you MUST reverse that by Espifying the esp afterwards, and before running the game, or it WILL crash. This will create a dependency on that mod, so your mod won't run without it.

I wouldnt mind giving the NPCs the items myself, but my issue lies with the Races and such.

In any case though, thanks for the help.
