Jeemecks
So I was trying to get the unnecessary violence mod working and I was experiencing a crash relating to dual wielding. On the FAQ the creator said it was a rare unfixable error and recommended a mod that replaced the models for the regular oblivion swords to fix it. Not only did that not work, but the new swords look god awful and I want the old ones back. Unfortunately the files for them were replaced by the new ones. Is there any way I can recover the old files? If not, does someone know if there is a default oblivion data folder floating around anywhere that I can take those files from, or will I have to reinstall my oblivion game and lose everything? SavageArtistry
If you do end up reinstalling, be sure to save a copy of your Data directory without mods so that you can always replace it in the future. Now, to fix your installation, you need to re-download those mods if you have deleted them, or just open them (the .7z/.zip/.rar or whatever) if you have not, and check to see what files those mods added to your Data directory. Then, using the opened archive file as a reference, you should be able to go into the Data directory and remove all the files that the mod added. The mod files don't actually replace the default files. They only "override" them. Removing all of the files added by the mod should restore your default weapons. Also, if you have an ArchiveInvalidation file and you had to add entries to it for these weapons, you'll want to remove those entries as well. Megatarius
Just for future reference, file replacers don't actually replace anything. All the vanilla things in the game are stored in several .bsa files, like meshes.bsa, and textures.bsa. They have an internal file structure that is the same as the ones in your data folder. So if you download a replacer for weapons, and there's no .esp file for it so it's a "straight file replacer", what you're really doing is putting the new files into your data folder using the exact same structure that's in the .bsa. The game will look for anything that's in your Data folder first, and use it if it's there. If it's not, it will look at the .bsa. Therefore, all you need to do is delete the "replacer" files.
