Sorry for the ranting...

 

It seems the the whole thing can be fixed with the mod ADVANCED TACTICS ( http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=181 )

 

Notice the line in AI section:

(v2.9) Fix the auto pause bug. The delay between entering combat and auto pause has been deleted.

 

So far my testing showed this mod fix the "moving around", "precise auto-pause" and the "ignoring queue orders" altogether! :)

Shiver my timbers if Bioware does not hire this guy at least for the quality assurance testing team!

Word of advice, use AT with caution.

 

The "scripts.ldf" file included with patch 1.03 (upon which AT relied) was rolled-back in 1.04 (accidently, it seems) to the version from 1.02. So AT won't operate correctly under 1.04. If you're patched to 1.04 and you've tweaked your AI to take advantage of some of the more sophisticated options in AT, you may find that in combat your Party members are standing around doing... nothing at all. ;D

 

Fixes include:

 

a. Roll-back to 1.03 (easier said than done! Plus, you may need other fixes from 1.04)

 

b. Remove AT (or at least use only 1.02-level actions)

 

c. For the truly advanced Nexian, find the 1.03 "scripts.ldf" file that someone extracted from the patch002.erf (remember, "patch002" is release 1.03, since the .erf patch-file numbering started with "000". They very kindly put a link to it in their post. V-G, I can't remember, was that you?) then place that file in your "[program files]\dragon age\packages\core\override" folder. (NOTE: This is NOT where you usually place mods, which is in the "override" folder under your user profile.)

So far it's working fine, as soon as I notice any misbehavior I know what to do.

I'm fighting in the game now, not fighting the game itself. The tactics system is what I like the most - seeing a successful strategy pay off is a thing of beauty!
