If you have a Raedon go for the Phenom II. ;) AMD has always been reliable for me. My GTX blew out and I tried an ATi. Won't ever go back.

If your budget allows it, I'd suggest upgrading your video card too. Preferably the HD series from Raedon.

So what caused the blow out was it a cooling issue or overclocking. They just don't blow up for no reason.

If that was the case then your card should be covered by the warranty you had on it the day you purchased it.

Go with Nvidia, nothing beats there performance for a single card.

I really respect your judgements Thor but as a long time Nvidia user who recently was utterly converted by ATI, I can totaly endorse Radeon.

I've got a single 4870, thats abou mid range, it's got 1 GB memory, it's fast, and it produce very little heat. But unlike my last card, an 8800GTS Nvidia, it doesnt have the same heating issue or unreliability. The Nvidia is ALWAYS faster, but Radeon make superb budget cards.

Look at it this way, if you want a fast car, you buy either a Bugatti or a Pagani, because they're the fastest cars ever made for the road. But not everyone can afford to spend 1.9 million USD on a car, so Ford makes the humble Mustang, it''s slow, low tech and some are down right ugly, but it's still fun, fast, and practical and does exactly what you want without bankrupting a medium sized country.
