Better Performance

Any advice on changing the games settings to get the best performance (i.e turning certain settings off)? I'm fine with having mediocre graphics if needed.

I've got the mods:

Less rocks

Muzzle with no lightening (can't remember if this helped performance but judging by the name I think it does)

Better Game Performance

Purge Cell Buffers

And would running other programs while playing slow the game down? Like atm I have a file converter and a torrent program running, would those slow the game down?

Thanks in advance!

What kind of hardware are you running? You could turn off shadows, water reflections, lower all of your various detail sliders. Turning off all unnecessary programs (especially antivirus software) while playing will free up a lot of resources. Here are some more mods to help you out:

Particle Nuller

FO3 Performance Enhancer

View Distance Decreased

No Blur On Hit

NMCs Texture Pack- the "Lite with Reduced Bumpmaps" version should give you a little better performance than the default game textures

Im running a Presario CQ61 Notebook with

AMD Athlon II

Dual Core M300 2Ghz

2.75GB Useable RAM

64-bit OS

And being new to modding, Im not sure if i have to do something extra to activate performance mods, but I just use FOMM to activate them and done right? Because im playing right now and I have the Less than Rock mod active but i still see little rocks everywhere.

Is that the one with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 graphics card? That's a pretty weak card. How well is your game running? Are you playing in Windowed mode. You might want to try Maximized Window. I hear good things about it.

Most performance mods are a simple esp file that you activate in FOMM. I think Less Rocks only removes one type of rock from the game so you'll still see all of the smaller and larger rocks which are unaffected by that particular mod.

Yea its a decent card, way better than my old computer so im grateful. Id get a better card but this isnt my computer to mess with.

I'm playing in fullscreen and judging by the description, it seems to be the same as Maximized Window.

A bit off topic but another question, i downloaded and activated the DUI mod and read somewhere that i had to activate two .esp's, but theres no dui.esp's in my load order even after activating. is this normal?

Did you get DUI from the Bethesda site? The Alpha 11 Fomod plus the Alpha 11 Hotfix? There should only be one esp. Extract the archive onto your desktop and double-click the fomod inside. That will start the installation. When it's finished, the DarnifiedUIF3.esp will appear in your mod list in FOMM.

If that doesn't happen, there's the possibility that that is one of the mods affected by a problem uncovered by recent versions of FOMM. You may need to downgrade to the 11.9 version of FOMM and reinstall your mods.

Yea it was off the bethesda site but wheres the hotfix? because i can only find the Alpha 11 Fomod.

But i tried installing it and it kept bringing up FOMM and crashing it so I'm downgrading atm.\

Seems to have worked. Since u seem to know what ur talking about and have helped me so much i have another issue.

Ive downloaded the Unofficial Patch of Nexus and installed it but it doesn't show up in my load order. I wasn't sure if it suppose to but I see people list it in their load orders so i assume it does. Is that true?

I know i have a topic below this one but no one seems to wana help me out.

The hotfix is listed below the main 7zip download. It's easy to overlook. Linky

Yes, the Unofficial Patch should appear in your load order. I would imagine you can tell it the directory to install to when you run it. As long as it's in your data folder, it should appear in FOMM.

I found this mod that removes "Normal Maps" but I've read over the description and I can't seem to figure out what a normal map is. Can someone please help me out?

Tweakin It Out - Textures

And would this mod help me out even though i run it on low? in the description it only talks about "high" and "very high" settings.
