I just got reminded that at the Junior High School I went to in the mid 1960's a person with a poor response to school who already was working for a living at a job which had, "guaranteed a lifetime of employment" would get a letter each year from the school, which told the parents, "Passed on account of Age."

No mention about the fact that the person was working already; and had to go to school, because it was a city/county requirement. The law forced several farm children away early morning chores, because they had to get out to the bus early in the morning.
That used to upset the Father's and Mother's of those Farm/Ranch families enough to start violent responses toward local politician's who used to call on them at the front door to get their vote.

In my earlier years one Governor tried to get a budget so he could hire body guards and get a bullet proof limo.
