Start up CTD.

Try renaming your Fallout.ini to Fallout.ini.bak, the one in Documents\My Games\Fallout3 (not the one in the games install folder), the game will create a new one, you'll have to redo your settings if it works. If it doesn't work then you can just revert by removing the .bak.

Love the pics dude. Hahahahahaha. Genius.

^wat?

Yeah, updating my drivers was the first thing I tried. I have been running FO3 for about two weeks with zero problems until I installed the GECK and then everything went to hell

Are other games OK? There is a patch for the GECK, might be worth installing that. Just to rule out some weird stuff going on with the slides themselves it might be worth trying a mod that replaces them, sure I've seen a couple. Other than that I'm at a loss.

You said you are deactivating ALL the mods. Are you deactivating even the Fallout 3.esm?? if so that might be a big no no right there.

Otherwise, the CTD's on game load usually occure when you've got a .esp mod checked and running without making sure all of its master files (.esm's) are checked and running too. Go through your mod list, and check the description of all the .esp's. it will tell you what masters it needs. Make sure you have all these masters running too.

Hmmm. Okay, maybe...Uninstall the game, and then remove your bethesda softworks/fallout 3 folder entirely. When you do the regular uninstall it will leave behind the 3rd party content...so deleting all of that and then re-installing might fix the issue.

Back to basics then;

- what's your hardware?

- have you installed outside C:\Program Files? (e.g. C:\Games\Fallout3)

- what's your patch level on FO3 (1.7?) - I use GOTY as well and I found that even installing the DLC's didn't patch the game correctly so I manually installed the 1.7 patch.

If you've got a multi-core CPU have you modified your ini file?

Perhaps check out: http://www.tweakguides.com/Fallout3_1.html

Great tweak guide a bit long but man does it have some good tips. In particular you may need to;

iNumHWThreads=2 under the General section of Fallout.ini (multi-core CPU fix)

Try those and see how you go.

Ok, so I have a Asus g73jh, which is way overqualified for this game.

The crashes started on an install that had been patched manually, like you said but was installed in Program Files (84x). I had about 40 or so mods. After the crashes started I uninstalled everything and put it on a external 1TB HD. Then I got the same crash, right after install.
