Mod Setup Help

I've been looking to try some mods for this, but ive never known where to start, there are that many out there. I was on another forum (nothing to do with Oblivion) and they were talking about Game Mods, and 1 person posted thier preffered load-out for Oblivion, i had a look at the files and they looked like a good setup, and i want to give it a shot, but i dont know where to begin.

- Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (including Harvest Flora and Living Economy)

- MMM for OOO (Martigen's Monster Mod)

- Unofficial Oblivion Patch/Official Mods Patch/Shivering Isles Patch

- Eagle Eye Realistic Archery (not really necessary with MMM's weapon improvements, but I play a ninja-type so a little extra pop in the arrows always helps)

- Kobu's Character Advancement System

- Qarl's Texture Pack 3 (note that this can be a system-killer because it really cranks the texture detail up to 11)

- Max Tael's Natural Weather

Thats the guys setup, problem is, i have no idea how to get it all working together, do i just put all the files in the Oblivion Data folder, and activate them in the Launcher, or do i use the Mod Manager, and if so, how exactly do i do that, because ive read that u have to activate mods in a certain order in that, any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. if its possible (i dont see why it wouldn't be) i want the No-Encumberance mod included, i know there are some purists who want the experience of a limited Inventory, and fair play to them, but im not one of them, i really dont like having to clear out everything inbetween every mission/dungeon you complete.

MMM and OOO generally don't work well together without the glue of FCOM, which is a really involved setup.

You can go here to see the FCOM Setup instructions http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/fcominstall.html

And see that they are EXTENSIVE, and then maybe just try OOO first.

FCOM really is the ticket--if you are willing to go to that much trouble. OOO is much less involved, and will still be fantastic. I will NEVER play Oblivion without it again...

I am leery of Qarl's. I have it installed, and it has slowed my stystem to a crawl, and made it very unstable. And, uninstalling it is a BEAR! If you are going to do that, use OBMM indicated below to hopefully make uninstalling it a bit easier.

There are two utilities worth checking out

Oblivion Mod Manager, known by most as OBMM: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097

Better Oblivion Sorting Software, known by most as BOSS: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516

I myself prefer Wrye Bash: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368

And would start with BOSS to get a basic load order, then let Wrye Bash take over by selecting the "Lock Times" feature.

But, whatever you decide, do these one at a time. Make sure they work before moving on to the next. Troubleshooting problems after installing multiple mods at the same time is tedious at the very least.

By loading a bunch of mods all at once you are going to have problems. Load one at a time and test before loading another. And starting with the most complicated mods is probably not a good idea either, Find a simple mod, a single weapon, article of clothing or armor. install it and get it to work. Then try something a little more difficult. Learn the quirks of installing various types of mods as you go. Work your way up to FCOM. It will actually save time.

You will need some utility programs. I recommend starting with OBMM (Oblivion Mod Manager) and OBSE (Oblivion Script Extender) OBMM makes working with mods so much easier, and OBSE is required for many mods to work. After you have a dozen mods you will need BOSS (Better Oblivion Sorting Software) to help set the load order. And when you do get around to FCOM you will Need Wrye Bash, a powerful utility, but more difficult for a neophyte to install and work with.

You will also need a good unzipping program, I recommend the FREE 7-zip

Be sure to read the instructions before installing as they don't all install the same.
