Class setup?

Hey guys, so I was wondering if you people could help me pick a class in Oblivion. I'm going for a warrior/stealth character. I wanna be able to sneak around, but also be good in a fight. Any suggestions for a class?

Well, first of all, you shouldn't pick a class, you should make a custom class. ;) I understand that it seems daunting to people who are new to it, but it's very simple and the benefits are great.

Anyway, the first thing is to prioritize. I understand that you want both, but what takes priority? Stealth and quick kills or melee fighting ability?

Not that you can't have both, it's just that stealth cancels out melee if you're good enough at it, so it's good to know which you prefer when building the character. It's also important because you more or less start by working on just three stats, and that's going to determine whether or not you want to work on Luck, Agility, or Endurance (Strength's a given from what you've said, as it will let you deal more blade damage either way.)

Blade, Block, Sneak, Marksman, Alteration + 2 skills of your choice is the setup I recommend.

Why? As a sneaky character you'll want to have good Sneak and Blade to make the most out of your sneak attacks. Marksman is good for when you want to weaken the enemies from safe distance and then eventually finish them when they get to close quarters. Block and Alteration are essential when you actually get to close quarters imo: as a stealth character you're gonna be wearing light armor most of the time, so the Protect line of spells from alteration will come in a handy. Not to mention Feather to carry more loot, Water Walking and Breathing when needed.

As for class stats: Agility is a must, then Intelligence if you want to focus more on spellcasting or Strenght to make those Blade hits hurt. ;)

I didn't mean choose a class, I mean a custom class setup. Sorry, I didn't really specify.

Thanks for the advice! Maybe Restoration for after the fight to heal up?

Well why not? But then you'll really want to put Intelligence as your second main stat because you'll need a decent amount of magicka, or Willpower to regenerate it faster :)

What birthsign do you think I should go with? Thief?

I always go with either Lady or Warrior for birthsigns. Lady if my class uses a bit more magic, since it increases your willpower (and endurance to withstand those brutes who make it to close range). Or Warrior for any other type of class, because it increases your Strength, which means more carrying capacity (I have a tendency to loot everything I come across), as well as that endurance to beef up my HP and fatigue.

But thats personal preference. Go with whatever sign you want to. Thief is a good one because of it's invisibility power.
