Keanumoreira,

What could possibly be different on mars, if we try to re create everything which is available on earth back at mars? it's an inchoate idea. even the possible scientific breakthroughs :woot:, are not worth spending budget. better make orphanages for orphans than to try to engender a paradigm of Horseshi* hoax. really, the ability to travel to mars might be a supercilious act for man, but being able to live on it? not until we run out of usable space for cities and houses, but earth capacious. no single specie reached this state without being destroyed after wards. o_O

now on moon? much ado about nothing. the moon lacks an atmosphere, therefore, you'll be living in a desert, ice cold at night :pinch: , grilling hot dogs at day  . so either you have to make a "FLOATING city for $ 9,999,999,999,999.99  " to remain unaffected by the gravity from pulling you to the deep cold darkness of night and the burning light of day, because as you know, while we only see one side of the moon on earth, in a 20 day cycle on earth, it will be a half a day on moon, due to logical reasons.

so all this hassle, for nothing?

NOPE.

It's still possible and it's still reasonable.

Ofcource, spending millions worth of dollars is more reasonable on mars, than spending it on something with more bang for buck.(African children)

I utterly support this vacuous and lucrative idea, shame not many people agree!

But I'd rather live on earth, rather than the poor moon, or troublesome mars.(not the candy bar) unless I am indigent on earth, or narcissistic enough to believe what I believe (living on mars) is absolutely right.

Keep up the great ideas.

I agree with you too. The only way I would leave Earth (To move. Of course I'd travel galacticly if it were possible) for Mars or anywhere else is if the Earth was too uninhabitable.

Mars advertisement  .

Please come to mars, "earths sister planet". now is a tropical paradise thanks to taraforming. Enjoy our beaches and wild life that dwarfs Earth's, You would never want to return.

fine print on bottom of screen

Be aware of the indigenous creatures they might attack at any time, note that they are very primitive yet intelligent.

Doesn't sound all that bad does it

Next advertisement is, gravity boots to help you get around on Mars.

Lol does this remind you of something :whistling:

Actually the radiation on Mars isn't really an issue. What everyone seems to overlook is the fact that dirt does just fine as a radiation shield, if you go deep enough. My proposition is to drop an advance team with some earthmoving equipment and habitation module, both shielded against radiation. They dig a BIG hole, and more hab modules are dropped nearby. They are connected together, and when the structure is large enough, it is covered over, except for a few surface accesses.

"..all of its gases, water, and other liquids never left the planet, they were just locked underground in ice sheets"

The atmosphere is believed to have gone because Mars gravity isn't strong enough to hold it against the solar wind. It isn't there any more.

"...burn carbon dioxide which is what we do everyday."

You can't burn carbon dioxide -- it's a combustion product.

"Venus, the next closest planet, is a gas giant."

No it isn't. The outer planets beyond Mars (except Pluto, which is arguably not a planet) are.

So far as artificial gravity (as it's usually understood) is concerned, I think it's a theoretical impossibility, as it would amount to a perpetual motion machine (or require enormous energy input, since it's equivalent to constant acceleration).

I like the idea of Mars colonies though, and I hope people do get there eventually
