Sithrazer
After a few months of not having touched Oblivion, I decided to fire it up and play for a bit. A few minute in, my mouse cursor locked in place and no keyboard controls worked. It's not a full freeze, as currently running animations seem to continue to run (like in character creation, the character fidgets as normal). I can also Alt-Tab out, and my mouse/keyboard are still functioning fine.Task Manager shows Oblivion as still running and not consuming a huge amount of system resources. I've tried reinstalling Oblivion, regenerating Oblivion.ini, and reducing video/audio settings. I'm running WinXP SP2, AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, 3.25Gb RAM, nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS (512Mb)Video driver version 6.14.12.5896 (258.96) *edit*Whatever direction I'm moving in when my controls lock up, my character continues to move in, and NPC's continue about their business. It's like my mouse/keyboard get disconnected. Edited August 18, 2010 by Sithrazer
Hickory
It sounds like your movement key (keyboard?) is sticking. Have you tried cleaning your keyboard?
Sithrazer
It sounds like your movement key (keyboard?) is sticking. Have you tried cleaning your keyboard? It's not just my movement key(s). My mouse cursor stops moving and no other keyboard controls work. Can't open inventory, map, menu, anything. I can alt-tab out and everything functions properly, tab back in and all my controls are still non-functioning (although half the time Oblivion locks up when alt-tabbing, but that's another issue altogether). What is the last mod that you've installed? Have you tried disabling it and checking your game again? The time that I experienced this problem, it turned out to be a totally fragged mod and once I uninstalled it everything started working again... I hadn't added any new mods since the last time I played and everything was working correctly. I've since done a clean install. So no mods, just the vanilla game. Sithrazer
Have you checked your mouse and keyboard mappings in options? yeah, I've tried it with default controls and custom controls, the controls work for a bit, and then cut out. Hickory
Then I would try spare/replacement mouse/keyboard.
Sithrazer
Then I would try spare/replacement mouse/keyboard. It's not a hardware issue. I've tried a couple different keyboards and one different mouse. My normal hardware works for everything else, including FO3. Oblivion is having some sort of disconnect after a couple minutes of playing. I've tried reinstalling several times now and whatever the problem is, it still persists. Hickory
Ok, here's a thought: do you have any controls mapped to a mouse/keyboard button/key that is also mapped to something else -- causing conflict?
