cameronizord
I looked around for a way to make a weapon I was making into a one handed weapon, as I originally just copied it all from a claymore, and I found lots of people confused and not knowing how to do it. I recently found out myself, going through stuff in NifSkope. Say you have open the mesh for the Fine Steel Claymore. First, click the arrow next to the word 'Claymore', so the rest drops down. Click on the where it says 'BackWeapon', and change both instances of it saying 'BackWeapon' to 'SideWeapon'. Now here's something I don't know if I should've done or not, but I'll mention it in case it's necessary, on the one below, I changed 'UPB' to 'Prn', and changed all the String Data to just 'SideWeapon'. Probably don't need to do that. After this, I went through it all and made every 'Claymore' into the word 'LongSword', and any other 'BackWeapon's into 'SideWeapon's.That should work, so save the mesh as whatever you want, and make sure when you select it in the CS that you make it one handed, not two. I hope it works, and sorry if i said more than necessary, I myself was not too sure with what I was messing around with, but it should be good.Thanks,Cam. David Brasher
So has this worked for you in play-testing? That is the bottom line. If it works it works. I investigated an approach sort of like this once and it did not work. The consensus among people on that discussion thread ended up being that the only way to really do the job was to take a one-handed weapon like a longsword and stretch it out or add on to it in Blender so that it looks like a claymore but is still wielded with one hand. LHammonds
Hey David, I think I remember that conversation...twas an ebony sword right? I cannot remember if I ever followed up on it. Without using a modeling tool, you have to do at least 4 things to change the hand-edness of a weapon: 1. Change the reference in the plugin from 2H to 1H.2. Use NifSkope to change the NIF file where the string data says "BackWeapon" to "SideWeapon"3. Test it in-game to see if it works.4. Based on in-game tests, might have to manually make changes to the XYZ coordinates so the handle fits in the hand. This is done in NifSkope. This may or may not work for some weapons. I have had luck with this before but your mileage may vary. The sure-fire way is to import the weapon in Blender and re-export it. (but you still have to do step #1 above). EDIT: I don't think the name of the NiTriStrip (the object) matters. LHammonds
David Brasher
Yes. I was testing theories on an ebony claymore. This claymore spent much of its time being invisible. I remember hitting monsters with my invisible blade. I think it could also bilocate. I could be wearing a visible copy of the blade and hitting enemies with the invisible copy all while I only possessed one ebony claymore in inventory. A number of people have put forth the theory that different weapons are different. So it may be that iron or steel or deadric or whatever would work, even if ebony does not. I have not tested that, and it wouldn't surprise me if it is true, although other people on the forums have reported that some things besides ebony do NOT work. LHammonds
Then it might very-well be sensitive to the object name...I've never considered it before. I have named objects in my weapons as Hilt, Blade, Sword, etc. but it may be that custom or unknown names do nothing and the game falls back onto what is pre-defined. Maybe "Claymore" and "Longsword" are key words in the engine...similar to how the game engine is sensitive to key material names such as EnvMap2 and skin. cameronizord
Yeah, it worked fine. I suppose it just depends on what you change, because there's bits for the scabbard, bits for the blade, and so on. Really you just got to think about what your changing and what makes sense. But yes, it did work. I can show you a screenshot of my char holding a claymore with one hand if you want?
