sullyvanj93
Trying to get into texture editing. Now I personally have always installed my mods manually, but to export the textures from the data folder, I read its suggested to use FOMM. So I try installing it, watching youtube videos to make sure im getting the right manager and doing it by the book. Well during installation, I get three error messages. It still allowed me to continue with the rest of the installation, however, so i proceeded. Next step was to open up FOMM, choose NV, go to "tools", then "BSA Browser", find my texture file, and export it to my desktop. Attempting this results in another error message. has anyone had this issue before? All I am trying to do is edit a few textures... So if you know how to fix this, or a roundabout way to edit textures without FOMM, please let me know! Thanks
Rabbit1251
The Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM) is an old utility and it's creators have since teamed up with the Nexus to create the Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) which is FOMM's bigger more powerful brother. You might want to give it a try if you haven't already. http://www.nexusmods.com/games/mods/modmanager/? Rabbit
Ladez
You're being denied writing access to folders. Did you run the program as administrator? sullyvanj93
I had no success with NMM, as it didn't have the extraction options needed for what I wanted to work on. And Ladez, yes. I am running it as the admin. That is why I am a bit puzzled that I was locked out of the options. I have tried creating the folders before hand, and while my computer allows me to do this, FOMM still won't let me to bring the files into the pre-existing folders either... kinda aggravating.. sullyvanj93
Ladez: you said NMM doesnt include the BSA tools with installation. are you aware of a way to get them separately, so I can use NMM to get these files? Or do you know of any other way to be able to edit these game files without using either manager? Really, I'm not picky with the software I use to get it done, as long as I am able to get these files out of the Fallout data bin and allow me to edit them so I can (hopefully) learn the skills other modders use to be able to edit existing game textures
Ladez
I guess you could try BSAopt. It's on the Skyrim Nexus but I'm certain that it works on other titles in the Bethesda catalogue.
sullyvanj93
unfortunately, it only works on the two elder scroll titles and FO3 :/ Luckily, I think I found a way to get it to work. Had to run FOMM as an administrator, and then create a folder to hold the textures in the "my documents" folder, instead of creating the folder on my desktop. No idea why, but the program just didn't like my desktop. had to try extracting a single file instead of "extract all" for it to even tell me that was the issue too. Sometimes I hate manual troubleshooting :/ lol but fingers crossed now I can work on these suckers Edited December 10, 2014 by sullyvanj93
