Welcome to the Nexus Jonathan.

With FO3, Im pretty new to the mods, but you'll find no end of good content. Some of the modders here do stuff that is honestly mind blowing. Some of the content is simply incredible, for example you havent seen tamriel till you've ppayed Oblivion on "ultra' with the mods Qarl Texture Pack, Natural Environment, Better Cities, Unique Landscapes, and the graphics enhancers turned on.

As for installing them, with Oblivion and Fallout 3, which share most of the same engine and in some rare cases can even have mods converted from one to te other(though that is illegal without the original modder's permision). First, you'll need a freeware prgramm, 7-Zip. This can be got for free on the Nexus and will see you through all your modding needs acorss any game, and can also be used to quickly open compressed email attachments. A good safe reliable freeware item.

Step one: click Start then Computer, select your main harddrive, and find where you installed Fallout 3. You've probably got it under program filesX86/Bethesda/Fallout 3. Now, I personaly recomend installing FO3 to it's own private folder not in program files, but thats just me. Create a shortcut from Bethesda's folder to the desktop.

Step two: go back a few click in that same drive, click users <your name> downloads, and make a shortcut from downloads to your desktop.

Having those two shortcuts just makes it a bunch quicker to find your new files and then load them.

Installing:

Step one: Pick a mod, and download it, be sure to Save, not Open, it. If you have the prerequisite program for mods, 7-Zip installed, then you can now ready it to install. using your shortcut to downloads, open downloads, find yor newly downloaded mod in the form of it's .RAR file, right click it, click 7-Zip > extract all here. Now click you shortcut to fallout 3's folder. Click the .ESP folder, and drag it over to the fallout folder window, carry it over to the sub folder Data, and drop it.

Step two: Do the exact same thing for Meshes and Textures if those folders exist. Just click and drag the whole folders labeled "textures" and "meshes" over to data, without opening data, and "drop" them. You'll get a confirmation box saying "folder "meshes"/"textures" already exists, merge? click confirm. Once all the textures, meshes and the .ESP are installed, the mod is.

Step three: start Fallout, click Data FIles, and then check the box9es) next to the new .esps. This turns the mod on. Once it's on, just uncheck to turn it off agai. You're ready to go.
