Edited helmet appears invisible...

Hello everybody! Here I am again, asking for help with something that a pro could do in less than a minute I'm sure, haha... :(

Anyway, I've been trying to remove the pointy antenna thing from the vanilla space helmet for my current mod. I've sort of learned my way around Blender enough that I managed to smush it down the way I wanted, but when equipped in the game, the whole helmet is invisible

You can download the mesh I edited here to take a peek.

Can anybody help me get this working? It's something so simple, I can't believe I'm having trouble with it. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks! :)

I would be happy to have a look, but I'm on Linux machine at the moment, and Nifskope isn't easy to install on Linux...

I could however suggest to open your starting mesh and you modified mesh and see what are the differences between the two. Most probably something around the Properties or theBSShader.

Another simple trick you can try is to copy the NiTriStripsData (and only that) of your modified mesh and paste it in the original starting mesh, then delete the old NiTriStripsData there and replace it with the pasted one. Save under a new name.

Does it look better?

Hey friend, thanks for the response  I'll try that out tomorrow (gotta go to bed now) and see how it goes.

By the way, you don't happen to know what could be causing this? I found it hilarious and it goes away once you equip a weapon (or do anything with your arms), and although I can't stop laughing, I figure most players would not be pleased, hahaha

The armor is just a retextured mesh - same as vanilla, so I dunno what the issue could be. In any case, I swear I can't stop laughing at it!

Sorry about the double post, but after much messing and trying again, now I'm getting this...

So, yeah, if anybody would be willing to help me remove the pointy antenna from the helmet at least, it would be really, really appreciated :)

I just had a look at your mesh and compared quickly to the original.
There are so much differences in the structure and the settings that is no wonder it doesn't render right.

Clothes, armors, etc. is an unexplored field for me. More complex than simple object.
I just noted that they are with NiTriShape when your file is made out of NiTriStrips.
Also the Shader are flagged with SF_Skinned, when yours are not.

In the case of the Space helmet there's a .egm file, which, I think, allows the mesh to adapt to the head of the character.
Modifying the mesh might be a problem...

This is way beyond my knowledge, sorry I can't help you more. :geek:

I could only suggest a dirty way: make the antenna invisible on texture and adding an Alpha Property.

As for the second issue it's err .. particular?
It reminds me the movie Freaks.

Only a retexture? I'm afraid I'm clueless.

Hm, I guess something broke when I saved the nif in Blender. No biggie for now, I can live with the antenna, haha  Thanks nonetheless. I'm still hoping someone can help my sorry nooby self.

I thought about the alpha, I'm not sure if it would leave a hole but I may do just that if I end up frustrated ;)

I've learned a (dirty) method to turn armor meshes into clutter objects (with this video), which I can later make wearable through Nifskope. Not very elegant but gets the job done  I think when I tried it with this helmet it still appeared invisible, if I remember correctly. Perhaps I'll try again and see. In any case I can live with it for now - as I said there's no hurry. If anybody wants to give me a hand, please do!

EDIT: Well, I did the UV map trick to make the antenna point to an invisible texture. It's working alright, although there's a hole at the top of the helmet (when worn, I managed to paste in a little thing to cover up the hole in the world model) that I guess I can live with.

Thanks for the suggestion, Pixelhate! As always you save my sorry self from utter failure :)
