Ok, how about explaining what you're doing from start to finish, along with what software you're using to open the .zip or .rar archives. Or for that matter, are you just downloading the .esp files and not saving them to the right location?
Switch
This thread should be able to help you. If not, then please post your query there. We're trying to keep all this mod installation stuff inside one thread, where possible. Thanks.
woot
These are my steps from start to finish Step 1. Download desired mod Step 2. open mod in .rar or .zip, whichever the mod comes in Step 3. extract .esp file into C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data Step 4. extract remaining files, (meshes, textures) into C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data Step 5. Start Oblivion Step 6. open Data files When I do step six, there is no box I can check to enable the mod
Vagrant0
Hmm, what program are you using to unzip? Is there an actual .esp file in your data folder, or is it just not registering that it is? Which mod specifically?
lyth
You might check to see if the esp is actually unzipping to the correct folder. If not use the windows search tool to figure out where it is being stashed. It's always possible that the program you are using is trying to append your chosen directory to a default rather than placing the file directly where you wish. Or you could be like me and have Oblivion installed to a drive other than C: What I do is unzip my mods to a temporary location (the same directory I download the mod to under 'My documents') then I copy everything to the correct <dir>/Oblivion/Data folder. This works well since a number of more complex mods have optional files in them and you may want to control what gets added or what mod files get overwritten by other mods. If this doesn't help you, try to answer vagrants post as accurately as possible. And since this thread may be locked by the time you reply, post a link to this thread in the response you put where Switch said to so other people can reference the details here. Switch
Oookay, I thought people would take the hint, but clearly I should have locked this thread in the first place. Mod installation posts go in the pinned mod installation thread. Okay? ^^; Locked.
