.rar and .7z

rar files are compressed files by Winrar. 7z files are files compressed using 7-zip. They are both file compression and unzipping programs. Either one will work with the other one's files and many other types of zipped files.

Winrar is a try before you buy 'shareware' program. And will nag you to register and pay and pop up advertisements.

7-zip is an absolutely FREE program, with no advertising, nag screens begging you to buy or registering. They encourage you to use it on as many computers as you want, and allow it on business computers also. And, It is also available right here on TesNexus. http://www.tesnexus....le.php?id=15579

Either one will work fine for unzipping any mods you find here or anywhere else. These are not mods, but programs and do not install like mods - so be sure to read the instructions.

No, The meshes folder should be in the data folder. As should the Textures folder.

The structure looks like Oblivion\Data\Meshes and Oblivion\Data\Textures

Most mods are extracted (using the unzipping program) directly into the data folder. There will be some way for you to pick the folder that it directs the unzipped files to when it extracts them. As long as the mod author set up the file structure properly for his mod everything should go into the right place without any help from you. However, it is always a good idea to read the readme or any other documantation that come with any mod for any special instructions.
