bben46
As they use the same game engine, installing mods in Oblivion is the same as in FO3. And many of the same tools are available, but with different names. FOMM becomes OBMM - Oblivion Mod Manager http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097FOSE becomes OBSE - Oblivion Script Extender http://obse.silverlock.org/ You will also need to be sure you have the latest patch. The GOTY comes already patched. Otherwise go here for the official patch: http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm

SwiftDeathSK
Personally, I would recommend not using any mods until you've beaten the game at least once. Get a feel for the original masterpiece before you start changing it. Just a personal recommendation.
Vindekarr
Right! Bben is as always, spot on, but! You'll also need BOSS-Oblivion equivalent of FOSS, BOSS will fix many problems before they occur. Installing Oblivion mods is identicle to Fallout 3 mods. OMODS install like FOMODS, manual MODs are the same too-just unpack click, drag, done. As for the mods themselves, to start you off, some advice: Oblivion is nowhere near as resiliant as Fallout, it's much easier to break, so be a little careful when you install something BIG, if it's more than a GB, then do NOT try and activate it on an existing charcater. For your basic mods to start you off I recomend OOO. OOO is an easy to use compilation that greatly increases the general game's quality by fixing endless amounts of bugs and doing some huge under-the-hood technical upgrades, on the whole it's top quality stuff, as much a DLC as a mod in feel. Just make sure you install it carefully-do NOT try and run it on an existing character-new character only, and the Deadly Traps qand Trap Chests sub ESPs can cause trouble, especialy if you arent a mage. Secondly, Midas Magic if you like casting spells, this is a deeply enjoyable and rewarding mod, that like OOO feels like an expansion pack, it's top quality, almost glitchless and adds some fantasic spells, like turning into a tiger, flying, entrapping your foes in restraining vines, creating teleport portals, and even turning corpses into gold! Thirdly, if you like stealth, grab Stealth Overhaul, what this little dude may lack in mod size, being the smallest I'm recomending by a huge margin, ti makes up for in shear quality, it's modding at it's very best, a simple but effective rebalance of stealth mechanics for greater fun and reliability. Finaly, you'll want to do some personal customisation. The first major step is to download Beautiful People, an easy to use compilation of aesthetic mods for better faces, then IFT 2.1, face textures by Enayla, and for female characters, HGEC or TGND(harder to install but more realistic) and for maloe character, Roert's Male Body Mod. Also keep an eye on Martigen's Monster Mod, it's another reall beauty, and a general classic, but incompatible with OOO except with the convergance patch.
