Kalizar
Description: A Recent Comments Section would be a section similar to the "Recent Updates" in the main pages of the Nexus site, and would simply add a new "Recent Comment" link to the file of the comment. Simply put, it's "Recent updates" but instead with the most recent comments dictating which files are there instead of the update to file attributes. Why: It would help files that might not have been noticed initially get more ground; the file in question might get one comment, then someone might say "Hey, I'll check this out", comment/endorse, and lead more people to this file boosting its' popularity, and this could be done with every single file that got a comment today. How: I don't have much understanding with HTML at the moment, however, wouldn't it be possible to use a version of the coding behind "Recent Updates" and rig it to where instead of by update or "New file" status, it judges by either Endorsements or Comments? For example, the top category would be Endorsements, the bottom, Comments. Why for you, the Moderators: I don't know, but going through every single inflammatory comment and going through the necessary procedures might be a little tough, this would make it to where you'd just have to click some links to do your jobs every day (Or at least, to check what has to be done). Thanks for all your hard work and effort with this site in order to make it the awesomeness it is today. If you take up my idea, thanks a lot, if not, very well, then, and sorry for wasting time. Note to misc readers: Share your thoughts. I'd appreciate feedback from anyone who likes/dislikes my idea.
HugePinball
Something like that could be easily abused, and putting it on the main page would be reason enough for some people to try. If you or anyone does want to see which files have recent comments, simply browse the Uploaded Files subforum (here for Fallout 3). Why for you, the Moderators: I don't know, but going through every single inflammatory comment and going through the necessary procedures might be a little tough, this would make it to where you'd just have to click some links to do your jobs every day (Or at least, to check what has to be done).I'm fairly sure that the staff is usually not out actively looking for posts that require moderator action. They rely upon members to use the report feature when they see objectionable or disruptive behavior, and if they do want to scan through recent activity, the forum software provides for that in many ways, least of which is just viewing a particular forum section as mentioned above. Kalizar
Point taken... Probably should have thought deeper into the scenario. However, I'm thinking of more of a more streamline approach for users to access information about mods in a simpler way than, say, checking the nexus forums every day, switching through a few categories, and swapping between the endorsements topic for that mod. Besides which, point taken, this is probably just an invalid idea. As for easily being abused, if you mean spam, there are already rules against it, but either way, I see your point. LHammonds
HugePinball said most everything I was going to mention. We already have that capability by browsing to the specific game's uploaded files forum but I think it would be better to have it incorporated into the Nexus sites. Why? Because people do browse the forums directly and add comments there instead of through the Nexus site. When this happens, the Nexus code that let's authors know that a comment has been added is bypassed...thus if you add a comment via the forum, the mod will not bubble up to the top of the most recently commented mods (sort option). Yes, it can be abused, but every feature added to the site can be abused. The thing is, that it can already be abused right now by browsing the forums...but I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages (from my point of view). I'm not sure about the implementation of this feature though...usually the Nexus sites "push" changes down to the forum or are linked to give the Nexus a portal view to the forum. I just don't know about the forum "pushing" updates to the Nexus site and how that would impact performance and upgrade issues. And yes, we rely on the community to report posts or uploads that break the rules. There are some times however that we stumble upon things that require moderation that have not been reported yet but that is the exception, not the norm. The odds are stacked against 3 or 4 moderators online being able to catch what thousands of members online can see....and sometimes we are only online just to handle reported cases and not even just browsing for ourselves.
