Creating Lip FIles for Custom Voice Companion Mod

ZombieUK

Recommended Posts

I am going bonkers over this. I have done the Audio Files for my Companion Tienvaar mod firstly but my CS is just not making Lip files.

Yes I know about the broken lip file button and followed many Guids detailing ways to over come this and Even trying out:

The Lip Template by Kivan: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13742

My CS is just not creating LIP files. I have to press the record button witch creates a mp3 file witch has LIp sync availableity but Those are awful mp3 and not clear enough.

I have the mp3 file in the right document and i click on the Argonian/M directory to tes out the file, it reconises it but it will not create a Lip sync file with that mp3 file.

HEEEELLLLPPP!!!

I am Frigging going mental over this.

And please Answer asap. I dont want this to become another un-answered Thread like so many before.

I have managed to create lip files by adding the Wav file version to the designated folder and created a Lip file from that then added the mp3 version of the Wav file and then bingo, it shows up BUT the NPC talks but no sound.

Does the Wav/MP3 file have to be within a certain frequency range of KHz or something cos I have read someplace that The CS only plays a certain frequency type of mp3.

I dunno... I mite as well ask somebody to do this for me as I think i simpley cannot follow well enough.

Yes, I have managed to Find a way around that that doesnt even require the Game itself and thats using the Lip Template by Kivan.

I do apoligise for my constant annoyance of pleading for help, but thats enthusiasm to Mod and learn.

My Current problem righ now is getting the Audio files to be heard ingame.

Lips are moving but no sound.

I have uploaded a test file recenly for people to try out tho i think I should'nt due to it being a cra*ppy version of my Voice acting. Just wanted to see if my Voice mp3 files and lip sync were working. It has yet to work.

I uploaded it to see if people can hear it ingame.

Its located here: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=33941

I will work on this later today. Need a breather to do stuff and then revise what do do from here. Its much more complicated to do than I realised.

I have been successful in my own efforts yesterday.

How to create custom voice/audio and lip files for Oblivion

1. Install TES v1 then rename the exe to TESConstructionSet2.exe

2. Uninstall it, since the exe had been renamed it's not deleted by the uninstaller.

3. Install TES v1.2 (the latest one). There should now be two TESCS exe's in you installation directory. One is named TESConstructionSet.exe (this is the new v1.2 version) and the other is named TESConstructionSet2.exe (this is the v1.0 version)

4. Go to My Documents/My Games/Oblivion, find the ConstructionSet.ini and change the value of bAllowMultipleEditors to 1 then save it and close it. This will enable you to run BOTH the v1.0 and v1.2 versions of TESCS at the same time.

5. Download Lip Template by Kivan (very very useful)

6. Prepare the mp3 files AND wav files. Both of them must be mono, 64 kbps, 44,100 Hz. Make sure you DO NOT save metadata along with it (i.e. artist, album, year, etc.), there are checkboxes in most audio editors, make sure to uncheck it if you see a 'save metadata with file' option.

7. Start TESConstructionSet2.exe and load the LipTemplate esp

8. Navigate to Data/Sound/Voice/LipTemplate.esp/Argonian/M then copy your correctly prepared WAV file into this folder.

9. Now go back to the TESCS and go to Characters->Quests from the toolbar, click the only available quest there and go to the Topic tab. Click Dialog1 (or something) and select new from the Info list.

10. Type the EXACT sentence being said in your mp3. The lip file generator depends on both the written words and the wav files, I think.

11. Close it.

12. Open it again (double click it), and copy the generated name for the audio file on top of the list box. Go back to Data/Sound/Voice/LipTemplate.esp/Argonian/M and rename the wav file you pasted there with the same name as the one in TESCS. Make sure you retain the .wav extension

13. Go back to TESCS and close the Topic info window again. And open it again. Double click on the Argonian/M entry in the list box and test if you can hear anything. If you can hear the wav being played then you're successful.

14. Now highlight the Argonian/M entry and tick 'from wav file' at the bottom. Then click Generate Lip file. A lip file should be created instantly in the Data/Sound/Voice/LipTemplate.esp/Argonian/M folder.

15. Close the TESCS v1 (or you can leave it open if you have more to convert). Now copy the generated lip file and paste it to the directory your mod has generated for voice files (it should be Data/Sound/Voice/YourModName.esp/RaceOfYourNPC/GenderOfYourNPC). Also paste the MP3 file that you made earlier of the same voice (not the WAV! But if you want to you can paste both WAV and MP3 here). TESCS generates lip files from wav's but I think the game itself only plays MP3 files, not WAV. So if the Mp3 is missing, even if you have a wav file and a Lip file, it will not play ingame.

16. Open the NEW TESCS (the one you didn't rename, make sure you click the correct exe from the installation directory of Oblivion). And go to your mod, to your quest tabs, and to your topics. Now double click on the info from the topic you want to add voices. Again, copy the generated name for the audio file from the Voice Filename box on the window.

17. Rename the mp3 file with that name (make sure to retain the mp3 extension), rename the lip file and (optionally) the wav file as well. Again make sure they all retain their respective extensions (.mp3, .lip, and .wav)

18. Close the info window in your TESCS and open it again. Now click on the entry in the list box corresponding to the race and gender of the NPC the voice belongs to. If it plays a sound, you have done it correctly.

19. Save and test ingame.

20. If you still can't hear anything it might be because of several reasons:

  •
  • a) Make sure you placed all the files in the proper sound directory in your Oblivion data directory. Again TESCS makes this for you automatically. Make sure you placed it in the race and gender folder corresponding to the race and gender of your character. (If it played in TESCS you did not make this mistake).
  • b) Make sure they are named correctly. Again, if it played in TESCS, you should have named them correctly.
  • c) Make sure you have the MP3 file and the Lip file there. Wav files are not played by the game. They are only used to generate the lip files.
  • d) Make sure the MP3 and the WAV files are in the CORRECT format. This is the most common mistake. Again, check the requirements for the MP3 files used by Oblivion. They must be mono, 64 kbps, 44,100 Hz. Anything else will not play. And they must not have metadata.

Hope this helps :) I am currently also trying to make a custom male companion. It's working nicely so far, but I wish there were more documentation on scripting. I've managed to make a custom quest for hiring him (including custom meshes and textures for posters and clothing). But I really want to do more. I know what variables I want, but I don't even know where to start looking (like determining how far your companion is from the player, or setting a constant disposition of the npc towards you - currently he smiles at you constantly even after you annoy him and he shouts at you >.<).

Note that I am not a coder, I'm a 3d artist. And this was the first time I delved into scripting in TESCS (I did mods for Morrowind before, though I didn't have internet back then so I never shared them and lost them to an HD death. They were all graphical mods though). I'm quite happy with the results so far... for one day of scripting! :D Let me know if this helps, maybe we can help each other out even, seeing as we're both new to this.

My ultimate goal is to make a romanceable MALE companion (by both genders, since I er... bat for the other team. LOL)

Does the Oblivion modding community in nexus have an irc channel? If you do can anyone point me to it?

Hm... also another warning. LOL. A very obvious mistake I made. Make sure when you copy and paste the name of the audio file needed from CS into the file itself, that you don't include empty spaces. >.< I just found out that the reason why one of my sound files wasn't playing was because instead of "AAS14RorikQuest_AAS14ComeWith_000045A4_1.mp3" it was named "AAS14RorikQuest_AAS14ComeWith_000045A4_1 .mp3"

An additional space between 1 and .mp3 >.<

Woah, thanks for the horde of info. Every little helps. I have managed to create lip sync files and got that Voice of mine Heard ingame.

Now here comes the task of creating the Dialogue, AI and being that is Teinvaar the Argonian.

Thanks S14 for the help. I can die happy now.

I also want to know more about the scripting but when attempting, I just go blank due to the amount of codes, phases etc so I end up --> :wallbash:

I get bored easaliy too so I just think Meh and play Oblivion or another game.

What I want to create wth my Mod is a Argonian Male Comp that is much like Emma's Companion Vilja with his own personality and such PLUS give Argonians much neede love over the countless Sexy Female elf Mods as Waaaay too much Stuff like floating about.

I like my females but not in the way of Skimpley clad skinny Fem elfs with BBB stuff. Gives the stereo-typical view of people who play Fantasy games.

Anyhoo thanks again.... Im just not looking forward to this scripting step. Tedious. :pirate:
