Graphics glitch with distant land

I rarely start new topics myself, but after a brief search in which I (most likely) used the wrong search terms, I didn't see what I was looking for.

I've been experimenting lately with graphic enhancing mods installed over a clean (unmodded) data directory, and I have a glitch which I guess is either something I goofed on installing, or my video card can't handle it and is causing the error.

Everything close looks fantastic, but if I enable distant land, I see this, which as you can see, looks as if the engine is trying to draw two kinds of land in the background at the same time. http://i55.tinypic.com/28wmemr.jpg Any ideas?

I first tried Qarl's, with Optimized Distant Land and had this error. This screenshot shows that overwritten with the complete set of Vibrant Textures mods.

Edit: Before someone asks for my load order.. here ya go. Obviously I have added other mods since I first encountered this error, but as always, I've been checking as I go to see if they've had any effect on the problem. I suspect it may be my video card, but I'll wait and see what you guys have to say. I'm also hunting down the latest drivers for my video card just to be sure that isn't the issue.

I'm just guessing, but maybe your game is putting unique landscapes' newly rendered land right over the regular land without getting rid of the regular land. To verify this, when you see a spot in the distance that looks this way, go to it physically. Is it a Unique Landscape? Type tcl into the console and float down beneath the ground. You'll see the distant land models about 50 feet down or so. Keep floating down to them and go through them. What happens? What do you see? Do you see two different land models intersecting each other?

Maybe a mod beneath Unique Landscapes is adding it back in. It could be a dirty mod and contains entries for the regular land by mistake.

Do you mean to say you first noticed this problem after trying Quarl's with Optimized Distant Land? Perhaps your Data folder contains meshes for the distant land added by Quarl's, and the meshes for the distant land added by Unique Landscapes.

Yep, I noticed this problem before installing Vibrant Textures. It's possible I messed up something while installing distant land in one of the previous mods. I was a bit confused on some of them. Since these mods don't add .esp files, I may end up just removing the distant land folders (meshes and textures) installed by these mods so Oblivion can find its vanilla resources again. Or I could just turn off distant land in the options menu.

Updating my video drivers just now didn't help. I'll see what I can do to follow your suggestion above.

Edited to add: I think it may have had something to do with Unique Landscapes. This was my first time trying it too. I think it may have just introduced too many changes. I tried removing it and all graphic enhancers to try again, but then Oblivion would not even start. Currently I've restored a clean copy of my Data directory with only official content and I'm going to try again.

Edited again: Restoring the clean copy and then installing Vibrant Textures without Unique Landscapes solved the issue. Shame, because I wanted to try UL. Oh well. Not all mods can live together in the same installation. Thanks for your help, Megatarius. :)

I would recommend using Qarl's uncompressed distant LOD textures instead, along with the better tiling textures (file.php?id=6996). Make sure you have all the patches for Qarl's, too, including the fixed meshes patch (file.php?id=26756). Also run TES4LODGen. There should be no problem running Qarl's and UL together, so long as Qarl's is installed first.
