Problems with the newest patch

Hey Guys! Got a question:

I wanna install a mod with requires OBSE. And I can only find downloads for the newest Version of OBSE. But that one needs the newest patch and I got a problem with that one:

 

After some % of installing it says:Old file not found. However a file with the same name was found. ... will not update untill the files don´t match...

 

So I´m asking you:

Is there another version of the newest patch?

Or how can I fix that?

Or do you know where I can download older OBSE versions? I need minimal v12 but maximum is v18. (v19 is newest as I know)

1. Before installing official patch, check your game version. If you're using GoTY, and you installed Shivering Isles, your game is already patched.

2. Check your game language and get the right version.

You get that message for several reasons.

 

1. The patch is already installed. Look in the lower left corner while starting the game to see the version number you have - V1.2.0416 is the latest.

 

2. You have installed the Oblivion only patch, then tried to install the Shivering Isles patch - For some obscure reason, Beth made them incomparable AND they have the same version number. Must reinstall with the correct patch. See reinstall procedure below.

 

3. You have moved the game from one location to another on your computer (reinstall) and it has some old Registry entries that don't know it was moved. - again you will need to reinstall using this procedure to clean it up.

It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice.

 

4. You have a pirate version - Sorry about your luck.

THX for the replys but I have checked that all... I have german version, and I took the german patch. I don´t have shivering isles. And the patch is not installed. (I checked the corner AND then I could use the newest obse version...)

Did you get your patch from the official Beth site? Sometimes mirrors don't have the most up to date version, and with torrent sites who knows what you really get.

Some downloaded versions (D2D) are not patchable with the official Bethesda patch, you must go to their site to get a compatible patch. And then they are often not compatible with OBSE because of their different protection scheme.

I tried but the same prob. But now I have more information:

But don´t forget: If you send me a link to a working older version of OBSE, I DON´T need the patch anymore.

So if you don´t have solutions anymore, just give me a link to an older OBSE if you know one.

 

The error always happens when it´s updating the Oblivion.exe. So I think the programm means: It´s not the .exe, it´s just a file with the same name... But it IS the original Oblivion.exe

The patch is required for more than OBSE. Many mods will not work at all without it. The latest patch, v1.2.0146 is actually over 3 years old ( May of 2007 for the German version) - any mods made using that patch will now need it to work. That will include nearly all mods made since the release of the patch.

 

If you try to install the shivering isles patch, then go back and try to install the Oblivion only patch it will fail as the SI patch makes changes in the Oblivion.exe file that will make the other patch think it is already installed. This can only be fixed with a full uninstall/reinstall.

 

Have you tried a full uninstall/reinstall, then patching?

You both are almost right. :biggrin: The latest version is v1.2.0416.

 

What version does your oblivion report when you start it up?
