Evangelion_2014
At first it was because it was TES:IV(I thought it was going to be a revolutionary game), but now it's just holding me off until I get my hands on daggerfall.
Rhydderch Hael
All cute shiny-ness aside, the coin is nonetheless indicative of my gaming temperment and my reasons for playing this game. You may complain the game is an action-oriented slashfest, little more than Diablo in a first-person 3D environment. Thing is, I come from a hardline (legit) Diablo playing community, a well-versed adherent to the gaming philosophy of Kill=Reward. Pulling the shiny pretty thingy from the gullet of a slain enemy, wiping the blood off its surface, and putting said item on you own person for use and display. It's why my character keeps his Wrist Irons. Its why he opts to kill Arnora during the "Two Sides" quest (he wants both ammys to Enchant at the Altar). Defeat the bad guys, save the world, get some fancy gear. It's all good.
sleaaels
Because its always fun to imerse yourself in a world of fantasy, and Oblivion provides the template for it, the modders add the decorations. BUT it does get lonely, thats why it will never keep me as captivated like mmorpg, say GW's.

RedRocketTM
I have to admit that I didn't know anything about Elder Scrolls when I started Oblivion. In fact, I only bought it, because a friend of mine kept telling me the character creation was really great, and that there was so much play around with to make your charakter look personal. When I started the game the first time, I was really impressed. It took me some hours to creat my character, and even two days to manage the tutorial. (The controll settings were weird for me.)Then I had to correct my character's appearence another hours, until I was finally able to experience the world of Cyrodiil. I like the freedom you have with doing your "hero-job" in Oblivion. You're totally free. Then you can make the game even more intresting by adding several mods. That's what makes it special. And of course playing is great fun! You even don't need to play as one of the standard races, with standard races or birthsighns. Everything's up to you, and what you like. All those possibillities! And off course the fantastic graphics were a big point to me. I've never seen that beautiful environments before. And last point was my new comp, which I wanted to test with Oblivion first. ^^ I had to buy a new graphics card this month, but who cares?Oblivion is definitely the best game I've ever seen! The first single-player game that excited me, after the Silent Hill, Resident Evil or Final Fantasy series though! (At least it would have been enough if there were only dark elves available... does that count? ^^)
Tiberiu911
Because I loved Morrowind, Oblivion is such a nice game with soo much freedom and so many quests and... Pfft, il cut the chasse. Because of great mods out there like Eshmes, who make playing a female char interesting (I must of spent hours in Baldur's Gate : DA 2 just unequiping and reequiping the armor on female characters!). Hmm talking about that just makes me fell like playing that game again. Or NWN. So, personally, because I like the (modded) girls (vanilla look strange after nude mods installed), oh and that I loved Morrowind. My friend keept pissing me off for about 3 months about how great Oblivion was on his 360, and now I got it on pc, with mods! Haha.
dreth
I got it also because my friend was being an ass and bragging about how good it was on Xbox360. So I bought it and beat him through the whole game with no cheats! HA! HA!
Povuholo
I play Oblivion because I played Morrowind and Arena (Played Arena after Morrowind) and loved them. Even though Oblivion was a BIT disappointing, I DO like it. It's not a bad game, but it's not perfect either. Not that any game is perfect... So I play Oblivion, and like it. Especially with mods.. Yes mods... Even if I had an Xbox 360 I would still have bought it on the PC, I can't imagine not having the option of adding (and making) mods. By the way, don't go to the general oblivion section of the official forums, it will only depress you with 100 threads showing 50 line stories about why they were disappointed.. Some good arguments, some not. Complaining and complaining... I only visit the Construction Set and modification section of the forums now... That's what I like about these forums, we talk about interesting stuff. Like.. um... you know... interesting stuff...
