Darmoth
I've done some testing... and seriously... Merchantile make the things you BUY cost less... however... the more merchantile you have the LESS you can SELL items for. Is there a fix for this? I thought it would have been taken care of in one of the official patches by NOW...
DragoonFurey
Thats not true, yes the buy/sell prices lower but you can buy for even less and sell for way more then a item is actualy worth using the bater +/- buttons. you can actualy make alot of money with mercanile, take skooma for example;sell it at 500 using the + barter option, then buy it back at 250 rinse and repeat. Acinonyk
Here's a tip: If you have a high mercantile skill, then sell to ppl who like you(100 dispostion) and buy from ppl who dont like you so much.( 40-50 disposition) NOTE: i may have been an idiot and got this mixed around, it might be vice versa(the other way round ) i saw this tip on some site, i cant remember which one, and i havent tried it meself, but you could try it, see if it works. i guess it makes you get less for selling because as your skill increases you have to have some challenge or you'd be getting away with 100000 gold for an iron dagger worth 5 gold. that's why mercantile is the way it is, i always found it a good skill, and no one made you take it. also if you want another reason you could say that with all the bartering your doing with a certain npc, their mercantile skill raises too, which could be the cause of your problem, though i doubt it.
Darmoth
Still... I DON'T think it was intended to work this way...
DragoonFurey
Ok you know how merchants will not pay full price for a item (the value it shows when you hover over the item in your inventory), even when their disposition is at 100, with a weak mercantile skill you could get maybe 70% of what its worth barting the price up, with a good mercantile skill you can barter up to 150% of what a item is worth. thus having good mercantile decreases your dependence on creeper/mudcrab and allows you to get more gold for items you sell. As a even better bonus you can buy items much much cheeper then relying on dispositions alone. This comes in quite handy in Tribunal where there are merchants with 10,000 bartering gold and its more difficult and time consuming to get to creeper and mudcrab and then back again.Again the default price the merchant gives your for a Item will decrease with a higher mercantile skill but at the same time you can barter it up farther then you previously could. Example: mercantile 20; sell ornate platter valued at 650 for 350, can barter up to 450mercantile 40; sell ornate platter valued at 650 for 300, can barter up to 550mercantile 60; sell ornate platter valued at 650 for 250, can barter up to 650mercantile 80; sell ornate platter valued at 650 for 200, can barter up to 750mercantile 20; buy exclusive potion valued at 175 for 150, can barter down to 130mercantile 80; buy exclusive potion valued at 175 for 100, can barter down to 50 these are not exact values, its just a example to show you how mercantile and bartering works. Dr. Corbett
Oh, I guess that answers my question in other topic. Ah, yes, Mercantile can be quite wonderful; but I always end up with so much money and stuff that it gets kind of useless. :-\
Marxist ßastard
...mercantile has to work that way so that if you sell an item and buy it back in the same window, the price will break even instead of being unbalanced.
Acinonyk
Still... I DON'T think it was intended to work this way... if it wasent intended to work that way bethsoft would've fixed it a long time ago.
