More of a guild presence

The mages stay in their halls, the fighters don't fight much, the thieves wander but don't steal, and I haven't seen a single person assassinated that wasn't by me.

So, is it possible to maybe make the different guilds have more of a presence around the world? Mages out collecting ingredients, or browsing stores, or or magey things. Fighters escorting merchants or others, slaying monsters, or anything more than what they already do. Thieves that break into others' houses, and maybe even get caught and imprisoned, or run and get killed. And unimportant NPC's get offed periodically, or even extras added for the sole purpose of being knifed at some point into the game. It's a fair amount of AI work, I understand, but I'm not skilled enough to do it myself. I'd just like to see the guilds serve some purpose other than for just the player. I think it would add a lot to the realism.
