I've been doing a lot of modding to Skyrim recently and I'm having a (not too surprising) issue of frequent CTDs. I have the 4gb patch, and I'm running Realvision ENB and the latest version of SKSE. I've used LOOT to sort my mod list, have a merged patch running at the end of my load list and removed any mods that seemed to be a problem, but I'm still plagued by frequent, yet seemingly random CTDs. Sometimes it happens within the first few minutes of play and sometimes it will be fine for hours. It can happen when going into a menu, quicksaving, talking to someone or just doing nothing at all and it's driving me crazy! It does seem to be more frequent outside than indoors, however. Can someone take a look at my load order and tell me if there's any known trouble mod or conflict that would be causing all of my grief? It's as follows:

Edit: I would post my papyrus log, but it seems to have bloated to well over a gb. After doing some reading this is probably from installing and uninstalling several mods over the course of playing. The biggest offender seems to be uninstalling imps more complex needs, as my logs were just a few kb beforehand. Is there any way to save my save or am will I have to start a new game? (I would really rather not if I can avoid it).

You may be able to save the game with these tools (one or both):

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/53045/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/52363/?

It is a very (VERY) common misconception that uninstalling mods is "complete" by simply removing them from your load order. However, as you now know, uninstalling does not necessarily "remove" the references/instances/threads from a Save Game.

Sorry to point you to my mod-specific page, but it's easier for me to do so than type it all out again here (you don't have to use WZ):

INSTALLATION : Gearing Up for Warzones 2015

Just scroll down to : PREPARING YOUR SAVEGAME FOR WARZONES : IGNORE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Also be sure to follow the directions from both Cleaner mods.

It may be in your interest to revert your INIs to "vanilla" for the sake of this discussion so that you are working within a safe baseline.

And going forward, you may want to install SAFE UGRIDS TO LOAD (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/41592/?) which seems to perform miracles for many (me included).

You may also want/need to look into this mod if the above fails to help:

Good luck!

I followed your guide to clean saves (I even waited the 31 days) and I've managed to get my log down to an open-able size, but it's still a bloated mess that sits at around 300mb. It seems that scripts I deleted with savegame cleaner are still showing up when I boot up skyrim again. Why would that happen? I'll post an abridged log here:

I'm going to take a wild guess that you maybe didn't open (or make) the "new save" made by SaveGameTool.

Also, the author SCALPEL suggests (somewhere) that sometimes you have to do it twice.

I think I got it sorted out now, But I've yet to thoroughly test it for CTD. The biggest offender by far was Mark Books As Read, which was generating millions of lines of papyrus errors per second, which was literally eating all of my remaining harddrive space. (I never thought I would ever see a 46gb text file.) There seems to be an issue with SaveTool where I can't save any changes with one of my other characters. I'm able to load up an older save just fine, but once I make a new save to update the load list SaveTool won't save anything I do to it, and the left side where the character name is usually displayed is blank. Any idea why this might be happening?

46GB?!?!?!?!?!? Holy cr*p!

A big "issue" like what you seem to be experiencing with Save Game tool is probably better brought to the author's attention on their comment thread, as I'm not an expert its possibly foibles. I seem to recall having something similar happen once, in which case I used the SAVE AS. Also possible that you can try using SCALPEL first (again) so it makes a backup and cleans out the "easy mess"... I'm just guessing.

I'm (and I suppose many people) will be interested in how this all plays out for you, so please keep me/us posted.

Well now I'm getting CTDs when I'm trying to make a manual save with the character I'm able to fully load into SaveTool with though. According to SCALPEL this is caused by making too many edits to my save :pinch:. I'll admit this is starting to get a bit frustrating. The character that CAN still makes saves is also getting CTDs on the item and map menus. GAH! Here's my log with the character that can't save:

Were it me, and I was diametrically opposed to doing away with my character (as opposed to just starting a new game with my chosen mods) and was having the "removing too much is bad" problem, I'd probably get myself to a quiet interior, make a NEW Save, remove a few things from the save, open/wait/NewSave, repeat - rather than removing a gazillion problems from a single save in one fell swoop.

In other words, I suspect you're going to need to do this in increments and not expect instant (if ever) miracles. As you tell it, you're doing surgery now.

EDIT : Y'know, may I use you as a guinea pig? Can you send me your SAVE? I can't promise anything, but I do want to try something out since you're by no means the first person I've come across since releasing WARZONES 2015 that has had this kind of problem, and I'd like to see about more definitive answers.

Plop them into my OwnCloud server at this link if you please:

... and let me know when you have.

Sorry to butt in ....In the OP you posted a few things that need addressed and i have not seen them covered....sooo

1) remove the 4gb patch, Skyrim does not need that anymore.

2) you say you used LOOT to sort your MOD list....LOOT did not sort that properly / IS not working for you or you did not click APPLY. The TOP of every Load Order needs to be as follows.

  1. Skyrim.esm
  2. Update.esm
  3. Unofficial Skyrim Patch.esp
  4. Dawnguard.esm
  5. Unofficial Dawnguard Patch.esp
  6. HearthFires.esm
  7. Unofficial Hearthfire Patch.esp
  8. Dragonborn.esm
  9. Unofficial Dragonborn Patch.esp
IN that order, this is according to the creators of the UNofficial patches. LOOT will give this load order. Make sure you have a current version of LOOT..(grab the v7 from the dropbox link) been using that for months.
3) This must be an older install of mods, some in need of updating, "SPIKE.ESM" is no longer used, The mods that used it have removed it.
4) LOOT should defiantly be warning you of a few mods in this Load order, have you done what LOOT has said? Midas comes to mind, since you also have Apocalipse...why both? And is Midas the repaired version.
Unless you are Extremely attached to the character, I would suggest going thru all mods , making sure you really have to have it, check for a newer version, Install mods on a fresh install, Check after installing any big mods.
Few random questions...
a) Do you have SKSE w/SKSE.ini , and one of the lines is "clear invalid registrations"
b) IS your ENB set up correctly to have Memory managment.
c) Have you installed "Stable Ugrids to load"
Good luck....

Agreed with the above from Camaro_69 (nice ride!). But that Papyrus log being in the GBs does indicate that even with those fixes/adds, you've got some heavy pollution in your save.

Not gonna lie... it may just be simpler to start over... but the invitation to upload your save is still open.
