Wrye Bash

I just got Wyre Bash; I'm not familiar with what Bash is capable of, but I just "darnified" all my books with it (first-hand experience with this tool).

I'm not familiar with what merging is. I have no idea why you have to bother "tagging" your mods. I get lots of funky pop-ups that warn me about one thing or another...

and I downloaded Bash under the impression that it could smooth out my gameplay experience.

So what exactly is Bash capable of?

Wrye Bash

Read and learn my friend, read and learn. I to, was a little confused at first, but I discovered that the best thing for me to do in order to understand such a tool and be able to us it properly is to know as much as posible about it and I did the best I could, I red all there was to be red about it. It's the best choice for new users, at least it was for me. Good luck!

Wrye Bash basically allows many mods to work together with minimal conflict. It seeks to filter and merge common aspects to minimize any issues that may arise. This is what Bash tags are for: to tell the program how to add and filter these things into the Bashed Patch. The window that appears asking you to deactivate mods so they can be merged tells you why. Oblivion has a hard limit of 255 plugins in the load list. By merging plugins you are able to save slots so Oblivion can work better. The closer you get to that hard limit, the more instability Oblivion will have.

Some things that Bash does so everything gets along include filtering race records (no more "googly" eyes), compiling leveled lists, and checking the contents of lists so there is no overlap or conflict. It will also import features of plugins that need to be available to work properly that may be overridden by plugins later in the load list. This is why Bashed Patch needs to be last in the load order.
