Run into a little hiccup with smoke grenades

I'm about 85% done with a smoke grenade mod, and need a little bit of help where my geck skills are running out.

So far what I have done:

Created a working smoke grenade with an enchantment that cuts perception and all combat skills, as well as takes a small amount of hp from you (suffocation).

Edited textures from incendiary grenade so they are unique while held and while projectile.

Added these smoke grenades to level lists so vendors and the occasional enemy will have them. (dont think enemies will use them, since damage is 0 though)

What I need help with:

Creating the smoke cloud! I was hoping to use the cloud from dead money (maybe with a slight recolor), but alas, I find myself completely lost when trying to link the ToxicCloud to the smoke grenade's explosion art file :/

Sound editing: I am hoping to lengthen the FireGasLow sound file to about 20 seconds, so it sounds like the smoke is constantly escaping the canister until it dissipates.

Are there any experienced modders out there that might join me in completing this mod? I think it would be quite popular among players, but I'm afraid I may not be able to complete it myself without years of practice with the geck.

If you are interested, send me a PM, and we can talk there about the next steps. Thank you!

Hey Devin, im in need of some help

I'm actually working on one myself based on DM cloud residue, but just havn't had the time to put it together yet.

so if you'd like to move this to email, I would be alright with that. You can reach me at ********************** if you're interested.

Probably best to catch you in your thread. That way you have more exposure, which is typically a good idea in fallout since there's often multiple ways of achieving your objective. More eyeballs = more help. I'll repost this PM there, so you don't have to worry about bumping the thread.

I'm currently making smoke grenades, and am about 80% done. only need help with a few things. If you have any time to spare at all to either help me finish the project up, or even give me a few steps in the geck to walk me through what I am trying to do, I would be MOST appreciative.

For the cloud itself? Some things you can change in geck, but some aspects you can only change in nifskope.

Let me know if you'd be able to help whatsoever, and I'll give ya some more details on what I am trying to get done. Thanks either way!

I probably won't be able to offer any help (time is just really short right now), but your free to ask, and maybe it's something I'v tackled before and can give some advice on.

looking at the cloud residue weapons page, your video is an awesome smoke texture devin! how did you get the weapon to release it? my geck know-how isnt exactly top notch, but I spent a lot of time trying to get my smoke grenades to be able to have that effect.

I'm pretty sure if I could figure out have to have a physical manifestation of the cloud, I could easily change the effects to do what I want my smoke grenades to do

I don't think you can do it through the geck (or at least I wouldn't know how to go that route), it's something you need to do in nifskope. It's been a while (it's a forgotten project, that I should probably finish up) but I believe I used the smoke node from a missile. Long story short, weijiesen one of the grand masters of mod-fu had suggested MPS (particle) effects for a shattering bottle effect, and I started experimenting with them (the thread is here).

There is a lot of *really* cool effects you can do, but I need to familiarize myself with the process again......it's been quite a while since I'v worked on them.

Oh for sure, the cloud is the only difficult/interesting part, the rest is fairly trivial.

Well I'll tinker around and see if I can do anything with that information. Haven't dealt with nifskope yet, still pretty green when it comes to this modding stuff.

Well that project looked pretty cool! its a shame nothing ever came of it. Especially since all of those bottle mods are no longer available, I'm sure theres an even higher demand for what you guys were trying to accomplish.

Yeah give it a shot, and I'll try to get back into it when I get a chance so I can offer some advice. Re: nifskope yeah it's something that is really essential for effects like these.

Yeah I think it's all done, just needs to be packed up and UL'd. I'll see if I can find it on my PC.

I was able to do most of it. Still working on making it a little darker, and need to make the size of the smoke cloud a lot larger, but for sure making progress. thanks a bunch for the quick pointers devin!
