MidbossVyers
I understand, from reading uesp.net, that changing class has the same risk as changing race, in that stats may be gone. Therefore, the safe way to change race would be to selecting what one wants but instead of pressing done, one should save and then reload that save. I used this same logic on changing class in that I clicked Witch Hunter (was a Night Blade), and then instead of clicking done, I saved and reloaded. However, after doing so, my character was still a Night Blade. Now, I could click Done, but would that reset my stats? Speaking of stats, race is one thing, but in terms of class, by changing class, one changes major and minor skills. In other words, would the 20-point major boost go to the new majors? Besides that allocation, no new point allocation would occur, right? For example, if my Blade skill is 43, after the class change, it would be 23 and not 5, right? Yes, my question is a bit confusing, but please bear with me.
ub3rman123
To keep from losing your stats, I always found that opening to console before clicking done worked.
MidbossVyers
In other words, keep the console open throughout the whole change process (which I do, anyway, even for the race change), but clicking done is part of that process? Would keeping the console open also make clicking done on the race menu safe for stats?
ub3rman123
First: Open the console.2. Type in ShowRace/ClassMenu3. WHen the menu is up, close the console.4. Change whatever you want.5. Open the console.6. Click done. That's the order I usually do it in.
heavywaters
But beware.... Even done correctly you still run the risk of corrupting your save, so make a back-up first.
nayvala
What worked for me was doing the same as the showracemenu trick; opening the showclassmenu by tying just that, changing what I like, leaving it open, making a new save, opening new save and done. No problems whatsoever, no resets. You don't get the bonusses again from what I saw, but I changed mine because I leveled too fast with too little chance to level up my main stats properly, so I corrected that and that worked just fine.
