llamaRCA
I load Data and select Kelsey only as Active file and then proceed with your example, then upon saving I get a window prompt to save as, with a blank space in the naming box, I select KelseyCompanion, which is the name of the esp and I get file error and that the esp is a master file or is in use. Please select another file to save to.Now this is where I always have hang ups of what to do, so I usually proceed to do nothing and anything I've mucked with in the past in GECK doesn't get save, because essentially I don't wish to make a new esp and usually hope to just save what I did to that esp but don't seem to have that option. Is there something amiss in say my preferences in GECK or something? Oh, no, now I understand. The Kelsey esp has been flagged as an esm. Sorry about that. I should have thought of that as an option. Go ahead and rename it to whatever you want and go to work on it. Although, if you don't want to make a new esp you could change the flag on the esm back to an esp by MasterUpdating it. That will change the esm to an esp; but it will do it to your whole load list (you can uncheck everything else first and they won't be affected). There might be a way to do it to just the one file in FO3Edit but I'm not familiar with how to do that. Then you would want to put it back to an esm again after you have done all your work on it. I suspect Loxy made it an esm because of the mismatching head/body colors when he made Kelsey; esm-ifying an esp will correct that problem. :) llama
BooneoftheWasteland
Ah yes that makes sense. IIamaRCA kudos for your help. Okay so if I go the route of renaming an esp, which means I don't use the original anymore, the new updated esp will still use the folders that were created by the original mod creator correct? And I can just replace the renamed esp in the load order that the original was in? So I found and downloaded a dialogue tutorial and after unzipping it the table of contents showed it was exactly what looked like I needed....but it wasn't finished! Ahhh woe... If you're willing to help still, how would I add already existing idle chatter sound files to companion npcs that I use? If you point in the right direction I could probably handle it... Did you ever look through the tutorial from Miax? The audiotape one? That is the one I used for learning how to do it. You are copying the files (ogg and lip file) and then adding it and renaming it in the GECK. It doesn't matter if the file is preexisting in the FO3 universeor if you created it new. You must create a new name for it in the GECK; this must be done when you want to add a new line of dialogue with sound files to your NPC. :) llama
BooneoftheWasteland
I did read it, and didn't see that relation, so I will look through it again keeping in mind what you said and now that I know about re-naming files and using them that helps in my clarity, thanks!
