Trueform
Hi all, Sorry if there's already a post about this, I looked through 15 pages then gave up searching :P (it's very late at night here). I'm very new to the geck and modding fallout 3, but I was just wondering if there's anything special I need to create an alien companion mod or whether it can all be done through the geck and Mothership Zeta alone? I would love to have one for myself (I have some quest ideas and background stories to go with it, but it's all in the concept stages at the moment). Any advice that can be given to help, or point me in the right direction would be very much appreciated. Thanks for your time, guys.
Nadin
It should be doable within the GECK, unless you want it voice acted. Then you'll need something like audacity and possibly a synthetic generator or a willing friend.I also recommend that you have F03edit, to undo your mistakes.Let me know if there's any other questions. Theonewhoisodd
Nothing 'special' is needed but it takes a lot of time and is best to learn how to use GECK well before attempting to make companion. I have been working on an alien follower for about a week so if you want to wait a bit longer I can message you when I get it working if not you can find a tutorial here: http://www.finhosting.fi/~fallout/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1230434906
Trueform
Thanks very much for the help guys, I appreciate it :) I shall definately take up the advice, and begin on my own, but if you don't mind messaging me when you have a working version, Nadin, that would be awesome :) Just recently I have been fascinated with the aliens and eventually when I get my head around the geck, I'm gonna start making quite a few alien-related (but not immersion-breaking) mods. As for the voice acting, that one is a tricky one... I'm British, so I generally can't do a lot of all-purpose voice acting myself due to the American Fallout setting, and how an alien would communicate is a bit of an obstacle. I was toying with the idea of the alien creating a kind of broken-english translator (they are very intelligent after all) but I think I'm gonna need a synth gen anyway for future voice-acting :)
Nadin
If you wish, I can extract the alien voice sounds from zeta and piece them together into a new voice for you. It'll be better than synth, I an promise you that.

Nadin
I have the file ready for chopping. Just let me know what files you need.
Trueform
I shall write some simple dialogue over the next couple of days and let you know. Thank you :D I'm not doing too bad following a tutorial I found online for companion creation, but I'm a little stuck on the later stages. This is probably gonna make me sound sorta dumb, but I got some basic dialogue sorted for a test companion and such, but when I load up the data file for the companion and the main game, the test companion (I have placed outside Vault 101) doesn't appear :wallbash: is it because the file is an esm instead of an esp? if so, is there any way I can change this? Thanks very much in advance :)
Theonewhoisodd
eh? How'd you get it to an esm first? I doubt that has anything to do with it though... Did you make sure to go into the render window and manually place the companion into the world?

Did you make sure to go into the render window and manually place the companion into the world? Yeah I did, but thanks anyway :) I'm not sure what went wrong, but I restarted the companion from scratch and set the Fallout 3 main file as the active file (I must have set Point Lookout or something as the active file to get it as an esm). Anyway, here is the dialogue you asked for, Nadin (my alien will be called Elvis) thanks very much for your help :D - I’m tired of looking at your ugly mug, Elvis. You’re fired. Elvis: Offence! Angry! Or this joke? - Yeah, I’m just kidding. Elvis: Happy again! - I’m serious. Elvis: Highest offence! I shall hope I you do not meet again! - I need your help out there again, Elvis. Elvis: Time you I leave, shoot things! - Elvis, I need you to go into that chamber and turn on the purifier. (Male)Elvis: What? No. - Elvis, I need you to go into that chamber and turn on the purifier. (Female)Elvis: What? No. - Let's talk about your tactics.Elvis: Mild offence! Speak you brain thought! - I want you to change your combat style? Elvis: I trained in many combats! - Let’s talk about something else? Elvis Human customs I find strange. - Let’s get going. Elvis: Agree with human love to kill! - Switch to a melee weapon. (I like what you’re doing. Stick with the melee). Elvis: Agree with strange friend! - Switch to a melee weapon. Elvis: I can kill with whichever I have in hand! - I want you to use ranged weapons. (You're not bad with a ranged weapon. Keep it up).Elvis: Agree with strange friend! - I want you to use ranged weapons. Elvis: Used to shoot womp rats back at homeland! - Let's talk about how close you're following me.
