How do I play a downloaded mod?

Ok, firstly how'd you get the game? You can only mod the disc version AFAIK, they sure as hell dont work on D2D, steam versions seem glitchy, and dont even get me started on pirate-scum.

Secondly, here's how you install em:

First, dowload and the find, they should be in computer>main HDD>users>you>downloads. Make a shortcut to where they end up.

Now uninstall Oblivion and re install it. When you re install, install it directly onto your main HDD in it's own new folder, make a shortcut to this folder, and dont worry, your saves are kept seperately so you wont lose any progress.

Now you can ready the mods. You'll need 7-Zip, Winzip, or some other decompression tool, I recomend 7-Zip, since it's the easiest to use and it's a full freeware program, that is to say, you get the whole program for free, it wont pester you to buy anything.

First, read the readme.

Then, With 7-Zip, right click on a mod's .RAR, click 7-Zip>extract here. Now open your shortcut to Oblivion's install. Click the folder marked textures and drag it-dont open it, just drag the whole thing over the "data" folder in Oblivion's install and drop. Do the same with Meshes and or sounds. If you dont have one of those folders, dont worry not all mods add new stuff like that. Lastly. drag the all important .esp file and if it has one, the .esm file, to data.

Now, start Oblivion's launcher, and click Data Files, place a tick next to your new mods, and then run the game. You'll also need some mods to run more complex mods, but this will do for now. If you install large mods, you will need to create a new character. Do not try and run anything larger than a new weapon/armour mod on an existing character, this is a recipe for disaster.

Lastly, from TES.Nexus, download and install these items: OBSE, BOSS, and OBMM. These are freeware applications that run instead of some parts of Oblivion's code, replacing and enhancing weak code and allowing vastly more complex modding. Boss is a sorting program that will fix most mod glitches before they start if you run it regularly.
